Sep. 21st, 2003 10:31 pmI've done many different things today, although none of them are especially interesting.
In the morning, I stopped by Best Buy looking for some Jonny Cash albums, wanting to hear what all the fuss is about. They didn't have any, of course -- they never have what I'm looking for -- but I picked up Temple of Elemental Evil. Afterwards, I headed over to the park. Er, Wilburton Hill Park, specifically.
There were some kids playing soccer in the field there, but it was strange -- they were all hispanic, and speaking in spanish. I don't hate foreigners, I really don't. I just hate foreign *languages*. If I can't understand what you're saying, what choice do I have but to assume it's some insult directed my way? Really!
So I walked on past to the botanical garden, which was full of people speaking Russian. I know enough Russian pronouns to be fairly certain people aren't speaking about me in it, although I can't in all honesty claim to have any skill whatsoever in the language any more. I *might* be able to decipher written Russian with a dictionary, I guess.
At any rate, I wasn't there to interact with people. I was there to look at plants. This was accomplished, and then I went home to check my mail (I'm sort of on call to take care of my sister's pets if she suddenly has her baby) and snatch my toothbrush for the weekly gathering.
It was kinda fun. There was this new guy 'Doc' who showed a lot of art... I don't really like his style, it kind of reminds me of Pepe's stuff. Jurann was there briefly and asked if anyone wanted to go to the movie... at 1:30. Since I'd JUST gotten my food, I had to say 'no'. DJ was there with him, and also blew him off... she was there explicitly to see people she hadn't been able to talk to in a couple months, so that wasn't really surprising.
I didn't go to the follow-on parties at Tasho or Legend's, though. I wasn't feeling that social. Instead I played THAT GAME. I'm up to 80 hours. Ugh. u.u I'm almost near the end, at least, assuming I don't decide to unlock the extra areas (I've already got Prinny Land, which is silly... the prinnies are so weak compared to the bonus gague payouts) or level up obsessively in Item World. Of course, I spent most of today leveling up obsessively in Item World.
I took a break from that, eventually, to get some ice cream and read the new Sandman series thingie that Niel Gaiman helped with and might have written most of, or something. It was pretty neat. After that, I decided that instead of playing MORE Disgaea, I'd try out Temple of Elemental Evil.
So far, it seems to be an adequately coded effort. It hasn't *quite* crashed, although doing certain things (mostly, clicking in areas the party can't path to) leads to a terror-inducing freeze that can last up to a minute. The plot for chaotic neutral parties is kind of scanty so far -- 'You find a treasure map, and decide to go to Hommlet'. Of course, the party leader *is* the INT and CHA 5 half orc.
There's one thing I haven't done, though, and probably won't. Prepare for tomorrow's game. I'll just skim the relevant sections while waiting for people to show up... yeah, that's the ticket.
