So, supposedly D+D 3.5 is coming out soon. Last week, I was all excited about this. It was still D+D, but with enough little changes to make it new and exciting, and with some of the more aggravating imbalances corrected, like perma-fly and the ubuquitous polymorph other into troll/annis hag/celestial deva. Plus upgraded classes and little things like damage resistance redone so it's not a trivial race to +5.

But then, Tom and Erik (and Dave, and Ed) decided that they didn't want to upgrade to 3.5. Maybe they'd pick a few rules they liked and just make some homebrew hybrid system. Oh, they WANTED to upgrade, but they didn't like the changes to weaken fly and polymorph, or the damage resistance changes, etc...

Aaarrgh!

I hate it when people dismiss something like that without even giving it a chance. Especially when it means I have to go along with it, since I'm horribly outnumbered.

Ed agrees with me that we shouldn't mix systems, but wants to stay 3.0 so he doesn't have to buy the books.

Erik just wants the new classes and nothing else. I'm okay with that, because playing with a bunch of new classes is less confusing than general rule mixing -- I mess around with Savage Species races or classes out of 3rd party books anyway.

Dave and Tom want to cherry pick rules because they don't like the idea of sticking with a ruleset and would love nothing better than to be able to make up their own rules on the fly. I *hate* that.

No one else is even willing to consider trying 3.5 straight. And given that Ed is the most enthusiastic about not changing anything at all, I probably won't be able to use 3.5 on Tuesdays either (since Ed is also in that game).

And all this before 3.5 has even hit the stores...
