Tonight we had a special session of Lance's high-level D+D game... Luis wants to get in another couple sessions before he leaves for Canada to pursue his dream of living in abject poverty after his startup game company fails.

We had to quit early, of course, because Lance is (as ever) beset by 19-year-old girlfriends. Or at least that's who he tells us is calling.

The fairy-dragon the party was talking to didn't want to let them in... so it went and got its mother. She didn't want to let them in either, because the last person they let in enslaved them, but eventually agreed to summon some friends to give them the gift of size, since each dragon could only give it once. She warned them that the populace would not aid them further.

The nameless wizard sent out spying eyes to scout the island. Most died in horrible ways, but his precaution of having half the eyes follow the other eyes and report back when the second half died paid off, and he got to see what horribly killed them.

The party decided that the strange mushroom tower would be a good thing to investigate first before the gift of size was given to them, so they told the mother dragon that they'd contact her when they were ready, and set off.

The tower was surrounded by a circle of death, in which lay the bodies of many fallen heroes -- knights, pegasi, and others. Several hapless summoned creatures were sent into the killing zone, and got taken out by random elemental blasts. So the wizard knocked the tower door, and Ray'ia jumped clear across the 100-foot zone and through it -- but still had to dodge a blast midair.

The door closed behind her. Ryu and the wizard wanted to follow her, but weren't nearly as good at dodging... but Ryu was immune to cold and acid, and there were only three other elements, right? Time for protection spells... he'd lead, and the wizard would follow in his wake after he absorbed the tower's blast.

Of course, the tower sensed that Ryu was protected and blasted him with physical damage (partially stopped by a stoneskin, at least), and sent a separate lightning blast at the wizard. The Pet and the Squirrel decided to stay outside.

So, the two of them burst in to see Ray'ia fighting a shadowy construct shaped like a monk... and as they entered, it grew dragon wings and... well, it didn't visibly change to match the wizard. "Thanks a lot guys," complained Ray'ia, who'd been doing fine on her own.

Ryu tried to help, but accidentally flew into a circle of light and was vanished. So Ray'ia and the wizard had to fight the creature on their own... which they did without much trouble. It was slippery and had lots of attacks, but they weren't very strong.

Afterwards, Ray'ia stepped into the circle to see what had happened to Ryu, and vanished as well... the wizard watch, and figured out that the circle was teleporting his friends instead of killing them, and eventually followed.

What followed was lots of riddles -- different sets for each person, in different rooms. Ryu blazed through his, although the very first riddle was programmed incorrectly -- his answer was right, the answer it was looking for was wrong. His fourth riddle was nasty and took a very long time to figure out. Ray'ia also blazed through hers, finishing slightly before Ryu even though he had quite a head start.

The wizard got snarky and failed his riddles until he gave up and started scrying, eventually teleporting to the final chamber with the others.

In the final chamber, behind an alignment barrier apparently set to 'good' (since all three of the party could pass it), in a small box, on a table, was the dragon orb of all colors of dragons. Ray'ia picked it up and immediately accidentally dominated Ryu, sending out a 'ping' that warned all dragons within 100 miles that a dragon orb was active and being used, and that they should come to kill the weilder. She also was able to detect that one of the incoming dragons was Barrabas -- the monster that had (probably) stolen their friend's soul.

The wizard and Ryu explained to Ray'ia what the dragon orb was. Ryu added that he was required by dragon law to kill her now, although he understood that it wasn't her fault she'd picked it up, and besides, he was dominated, so if she destroyed it he'd forgive her. "But with this we can take out Barrabas!" wizard and Ray'ia said. Besides, none of them (including Ryu) had any idea how to destroy it.

The party teleported outside using the conveniently provided exit glyph, rejoined pet and squirrel, then teleported VERY FAR AWAY to a nonexistant spot, ending up in a random stretch of open grassland, where they set up camp in Squirrel's portable mansion. In the morning, they would teleport back and try to use the dragon orb to kill Barrabas and retrieve the soul.
