Flight of the Bumbling Zi Ri
Mar. 9th, 2003 05:51 pmToday was Loxley's online World Tree game. We chatted, and ate lunch, and thought of something to do, and went to do it, although we didn't get there yet. (which of course was pre-ordained, since it was something the players thought up and the GM wouldn't have had time to get it ready yet... or maybe he anticipated it, it's possible) Light, no heavy lifting.
The next morning after escaping the sewers, the party linked up with Wonko and Cimm at Brunotirip's house. They also discovered that Mikh, who'd shown his heorism fighting the slime demon thing, was a (former?) employee of house Aberdeen, one of the people they were supposed to have saved, and the only one they actually managed to. Mikh informed them that the bandits hadn't killed off the prisoners -- Vog Mor had actually done it himself. That made the urgency of tracking them down much less, since they were mostly thieves instead of murderers. Not that they hadn't killed people.
But, anyway, after filling Cimm and Wonko in on the sewer incident and introducing them to Mikh (and vice versa), the party decided to head to Hellestew to see if anyone there knew where the wizard 'Thimony' (whose zombie head Kijji had bitten off) lived -- a now unguarded wizard's tower seemed like a good place to find dangerous artefacts that should not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands. The wrong hands being 'anyone eles's'.
The spiridor professor at the academy knew where Thimony lived, and drew the party a map. Zie was distressed, although not surprised, that Thimony had met with a bad end, and agreed that zir other experiments might warrent some checking. So, with that out of the way easily enough, they stopped at the fish place on Lake LeCraine to eat and plan how to get out there.
They finally decided to turn themsevles into Zi Ri and fly there, to save the 3 lz each it'd cost to rent a mount. They figured that cutting across mountains and the like would make up for the reduced speed. Silverspray had 'Fly like a bird', so they used that on Mikh so that at least one of them would be at full fighting strength if they ran into trouble.
They did run into trouble, but not the sort that could be fought. First of all, they weren't the most skilled fliers in the world, and Wonko in particular ended up perching on Mikh's back for most of the way. Then a sudden storm forced them to the ground in a small herethroy village, where they had to sit a few hours. This meant that (a) they didn't get to their desitnation before nightfall, and (b) they didn't get to their destination before the spells ran out. Or rather, before for safety's sake they had to be refreshed.
So they ended up flying into the night a bit, and landing at a tiny gormorror homestead. The boistrous gormorror were friendly and enthusiastic hosts, but disaster was only just barely skirted when the subject of Thimony was tentatively brought up. So Kijji spun an alternate story about searching for a grace in the verticals, and pretended to agree with the gormorror that staying the hell away from Thimony's tower and the town that served it would be a good idea.
Near the end of dinner, the gormorror's homely daughter came out and started flirting with Mikh. How cute!
