Tonight was Chris' scifi Shadake game... people were distracted again, although not as badly -- that is, we eventually did get some sort of game in.

It's hard not to be distracted when playing off a laptop sitting right next to someone playing Morrowind, who lets you install Freelancer off his disk for a demo to see if it'll work on your system (prognosis: yes, it runs very well, and looks like a neat game... but the controls are annoying).

He spent most of the game playing around in Morrowind, leaping tall buildings in a single bound (literally) and selling off 500,000 worth of loot... then dueling vie fisticuffs with a man, training his skill up from 12 to 27 in the process... you know, watching him play makes me want to keep not playing it even more.

But anyway, the RPG we were theoretically there for, yes.

So there I was, lying in the lounge in the miserable 1.1 G of Napan, when suddenly I was crushed to the floor so hard I couldn't move! I was terrified that the planet had got all heavy like that, but then Dru pulled me out of it into some weird-ass simulated world inside this crazy psi's head, where we sort of fought him idea vs idea. Wish someone'd told me that at the time, I might have come up with something better than biting him.

But they didn't, so I sliced off the dragon's head, and then yanked on the squid's tentacles to pull it out of the ocean, then dumped water on the fire, then bit the floating guy, then bit him again, and then it was over. Other people were doing other stuff -- there was a spaceship involved, and some missiles, and I think someone conjured up an oil tanker to drop on the guy's head...

I turns out we were saved by Ran, sort of. I mean, we were winning anyway, but Ran was outside the whole spell and just knocked the guy out in the real world, which ended the attack. He told us that we were supposed to meet these people he trusted at some coordinates out in deep space. He trusted them because they'd called to warn him about his apartment blowing up a few hours after it'd blown up, and then called to warn him that the ship was going to be attacked just after it was attacked.

I thought that was pretty suspicious, so I kept a close eye on them when we linked up. They were the same black-clad poetic assassins from the big military ship. They took Ran off and trained him to be a better ninja, or so he claimed, and talked a lot to Blue and Dru -- something about Blue being artificial, just like the psi Ran'd captured and Dru's daughter Pixel.

I fought a duel with one of them, 'cause they were reading my mind or something and were insulted by my hostility. They insisted it not be to the death. I insisted it take place outside on the hull of the ship. They had no problem with that, unfortunately... but room to move did work in my favor.

The ninja guy I was fighting was tricky, but my psi-shield was good enough to mostly hold off his attacks, I just couldn't get through with my own. I did some high-speed ramming attacks that seemed to do something, and he used these horrible ninja stars, and started anticipating when I'd put up a psi shield instead of dodging to get in some forceful but inaccurate attacks... after a long, long fight I decided enough was enough, and bet everything on one last, vicious all-out assault...

Eh, like I said, it wasn't to the death. But man that hurt. Remind me never to get spitted like a pig again.

[after five rounds with neither of us being seriously wounded, the duel was said to be 'about an even match' and was resolved with an opposed sanity check, which I flubbed]

About the time I was mostly healed from that, we got attacked by a big military ship, demanding we turn over Pixel. We sort of lured them in close by agreeing, then opened up -- and the black assassin people copied my rush-attack move with their ship, and really ripped into the enemy. They tried to warp out, but they didn't really succeed, almost most of the big pieces of their ship went elsewhere. Still, plenty of salvage, especially considering the lack of damage we took in the process.

Don't know where we're heading next, though. Maybe I should pay more attention? Eh, what does it matter.
