Weakling Toughs
Feb. 9th, 2003 05:46 pmToday was Loxley's World Tree game. We went to a bar and beat up some thugs, and captured their leader. There was also some drama. Unfortunately, it was OOC.
Since we did combat, it took a long time and not much happened. Basically, the party walked in accompanying the agent of the guy who'd hired us. The agent spoke a few words to the contact. The contact said, 'yeah, here's my message', and tried to kill the agent. Then we killed him. Then we healed him back from death, because we didn't want him dead. Then we beat up on his thugs a bit. Then he tried to get away, and we almost killed him again, but this time he was only unconscious.
Silverspray and Cimminerova used fire magic, Kijji and Klepsydra used spears, and there were some other random spells like thorn beetles and wedging doors shut. The fire magic was much more effective than the not-quite-as-dedicated mages of the party using spears, as was the thorn beetle.
Sly mostly hid in the rafters the whole time... more on that (OOC) below.
So, we took him back to Bruno's house after being thrown out of the bar -- not for fighting, but for turning furniture into Thorn Beetles -- and he was dumped in the basement 'dungeon' for interrogation. But apparently Bruno claimed to already know who was behind the attacks, and volunteered to lead us there. Kind of suspicious, now that I think about it.
Then we retired to the Fox in Flames to rest and prepare for the next night's sewer-diving.
last session next session
The drama was Slytherin's attempts at being useful in combat: 'I'll hook one of the thugs with my cane, then use him as a weapon to hit his buddies!' And so on. The GM ruled they were brawling maneuvers. Difficult ones. He didn't have brawling skill, and wanted to use pole/staff skill. I tried to work out how that would possibly work. He complained that I was making it too complicated. And... it went on from there. For a while.
The silliest part was when he was saying he should be able to do ridiculous stuff because Sly Cooper did it in the video game... and it wasn't stuff Sly ever did. I don't think he ever actually played the game, although he might have seen a commercial for it.
Eventually, we decided he could re-make his character with Loxley's help to do what he wanted it to do... but he just blew that off with, 'oh, whatever. I'll just make a different character since combat is so complicated and stupid'.
I'm not particularly sure I want to game with him.
