Assassins assassins everywhere!
Feb. 8th, 2003 02:10 am..and not a stop to think! Tonight was Chris' Friday Shadake game. There were more assassination attempts, not *all* directed against the party, and we fought them off. And there was much looting.
We also redid the technology (at least, as it relates to combat) before the game, which COMPLETELY NERFED Ran (the ninja). The GM'll let the guy remake his character, at least... and he was still pretty effective this time because of the taser built in to his sword.
Well, we'd escaped from the spiders and I had all this money burning a hole in my pocket -- no, not literally, the capacitor wasn't leaking any more than normal. But it is kind of creepy to have that much energy on you. What if it blows up?
So I spent the money Ran gave me for saving his life on some new combat armor (in bright neon swirly colors, whee!) and metal claws. Most of the cost was paying the copyright fees on the patterns, the ship was able to construct the things themselves once it knew what to make. What a total rip off! When I was a pirate I never had to pay for data.
Anyway, with my new armor I felt more like myself again, and accompanied Isaiah to meet a new client, along with Ran. He offered Isaiah a huge amount of energy to deliver a message a very short distance. I thought he was crazy to turn it down, but it turned out it was the right choice when the guy left a bomb on the table! He probably didn't count on my flying over and beating him to a bloody pulp, and no one else was hurt in the blast either.
We took this second stupid assassin back to the ship and put him in a tank in the medbay and cured him of his nanite infestation... once he was defenseless, it was easy to synthesize a primitive truth serum and get him to talk. He didn't know anything useful about the people who were after Isaiah, but he did know the password to his bank account. Now I've got 25000e sitting in my pocket capacitor... very scary. But somehow comforting.
Before we could get comfortable, though, the crazy lady back on Mars called us for help! Or maybe to invite us out on a date. Everyone seemed dead-set on rescuing her, and I didn't really want her dead all that badly, so we all went down in the shuttle, since the captain didn't want to waste energy landing the ship itself. Blue, the ship's computer, sent down his little avatar. Me and the avatar had to ride in the luggage compartment because there weren't enough seats.
We got down, and the building was in flames. Then someone shot a rocket at us. How rude! We landed quickly, and I went after the rocket guy, but got distracted fighting this other psychic who came out of nowhere to help his friends. And by 'distracted', read 'thrown 500 feet backwards'. Ran took out the other mook, then both of us ganged up on the psychic.
It was fun! He was actually powerful enough to make me use all my power, and skilled enough not to go down easily. The end of the fight was kind of anticlimactic, though -- he screwed up and slammed into the ground at high speed, and I finished him off with a big clumsy psi-blast while he was lying there stunned. Left a nice little crater.
Meanwhile, though, the rocket guy managed to take out our shuttle. Not a total loss, but not flyable. The pilot -- apparently, the useless photographer is also a shuttle pilot -- wasn't hurt much either. I ripped a wing off the military shuttle/tank thing the bunny engineer was dismantling to replace the wing that had gotten blown off, but it didn't fit.
So, anyway, the crazy lady was still alive, so we called the captain and told him we had a passenger down here who could pay him, and he brought the ship down after all. While it was down we looted the enemies, and their shuttle, and their little robot things, and even kept the spare wing. Blue read their minds and said they were actually federal military special forces, which made a couple people kind of worried. I was sort of relieved, since this *wasn't* a new force coming after me.
Then crazy lady took over the medical bay and healed herself. Blue was worried she'd take over the whole ship, but she didn't, and she even agreed to pay a fare to go 'anywhere but here'. Then Ran asked the captain to take him back to Napan... but Napan wasn't on the itinerary, apparently.
I think... I think we might be going to Earth next. Gaaah.
