Today was Tom's D+D game, where we encountered a massive anticlimax, got really beat up by a stupid trap, then decided to do a fedex quest for an evil monster.

First, the anticlimax. With the Orb of Silvery Death in their grasp, the party was teleported into the inner sanctum of the temple of insanity! The air chilled their very souls (despite the 'endure cold' everyone had up), the walls were lined with statues that whispered and taunted them, and standing at the altar was...

...the second priestess of the temple, alone. They'd already killed all her guards and followers, as well as her superior. It wasn't a *completely* trivial battle, but it only lasted two rounds. Most of the damage they took was from a blade barrier she put up over the teleport circle they'd arrived on.

Oh, there were also some shadow hounds, but the two who hadn't been killed in the first round were taken out by the blade barrier.

The party looter her extremely dead corpse (she'd tried to feign death, but there hadn't been any other targets for Marcus' Ball Lightnings, so he'd fried her again and again with them just in case) and the altar, then ran out of the room before the statues did too much damage. The stairway which was the only exit led up to the first cold room, surrounded by darkness. They discovered a small talking statue in the third alcove of darkness there, but giving it the wrong answer led to one being teleported to the inner sanctum... which was still filled with a blade barrier. After a couple painful attempts they figured that out and decided to come back to it later.

So, onwards! They found the room the assassins had lived in, mostly stripped but with a few bottles of (ingested) poison remaining. They found the temple's elite guards, who were all slaughtered nearly instantly. They found a massive elemental, who KICKED THEIR BUTT but failed to actually kill anyone. Then they went back to the assassin's room to rest, not really worried about the denizens of this inner ring accosting them. Who was even left?

The next day they continued on their mop-up run. Most of the party was suffering ill effects from the statues' taunting -- apparently, it was permanent, slowly draining their wisdom... at about the rate a Lesser Restoration would cure. Cure Disease and Remove Curse didn't work... maybe Heal would, next level? Next level was a ways away with the huge, fourteen member super-party, though.

In her dream, Guinsette had been approached by a strange, tentacled creature who asked her to bring it something to eat. She conspired briefly with Bella to feed Tenaris to it, but some of the others heard them talking and suggested that it was probably the Illithid Oracle they'd been told of, and that it just needed brains. There were certainly plently of dead bodies around. So they cut off some heads, and headed Oraclewards.

They found a secret door, behind which was... a trap. And then another secret door, which led back into the non-secret areas. Apparently, the builders really hadn't wanted anyone falling into the trap by accident.

Then they ran into some bugbears. Yay! More heads! Fresher ones! And then... a room that was obviously inhabited by nagas was seen, beyond a pair of portcullises. More portcullises dropped down behind the party, herding them into the room, where no doubt a slaughter will occur. What in god's name are the nagas thinking?
