Tonight was Dan's D+D game (moved from Tuesday this week only due to scheduling). We killed the barrow wight that had murdered a grave robber, then robbed the grave ourselves. It was quite lucrative.

Back in town, the party was given a hero's welcome, and given medals and a bonus. Not a very *large* bonus, but still, it was nice to be appreciated.

They were also hired by one of the magistrates for a private mission to investigate a tomb some of his miners had accidentally broken into. He insisted on taking a percentage of any treasure found, and promised not to tell the priests of the god of death about it (since they tended to frown upon grave robbery), and also paid the party a small sum in advance and offered more on completion.

What adventurer could turn down the opportunity to rob a grave?

It turned out that one of the miners had been similarly avaricious, and had vanished, the only clue being a personal effect left near the ominously open door at the bottom of the silver mine, that had previously been mysteriously closed.

So the party went down, figured out the touch-pad door locks, and was faced with the terrifying sight of... a STATUE! Fortunately, this was one of the 70% or so of statues that *don't* come to life and kill you, so after chipping off its hands JUST IN CASE they moved on.

The statue had been notable in not having a head. Soon, they found the missing miner, also without his head. A further search revealed many carved figures of dead men on sarcophogi. Without heads. Finally, after walking down a hallway lined with headless statues, they found the hovering legless, headless monster that had killed the miner, judging by the dead head balanced on its severed neck.

The battle was long -- long enough for Vlad's Shield spell to run out -- although not particularly difficult. The monster had the ability to freeze a person's legs with a terrifying gaze, but what dragged things out most was its damage resistance, which the party never discovered as they managed to (barely) overcome it on every single swing just by doing a lot of damage.

Near the end of the battle, Ray'ia decided (on Ira's suggestion) to try defacing one of the childrens' tombs at the edge of the room, hoping that it would affect the creature. The creature flew into a rage and nearly took Ray'ia's head off! She bolted, and it chased her around the tomb like a headless chicken until she managed to tumble past it and get back to the party, where Vlad threw a vial of alchemist's fire on it and finished it off.

There were many magical weapons in the tomb, along with a bunch of silver and some gems and jewelry. They told (and showed) the miners that the mine was safe again, then took the lewt back to town to be identified, and for their employer to take his share and pay them. Everyone ended up getting at least one useful item, although no one ended up with much cash.

last session next session

Overall this was a filler in-and-out dungeon crawl, since Lance had to leave early to deal with ex-family issues (and we hadn't known if he'd be there at all).
