Stupid golems ruin everything.
Jan. 5th, 2003 07:08 pmTonight was Tom's RttToEE game, where we decided to split up to explore the Outer Fane, and rescued an NPC, who was immediately killed. And there was much rejoicing.
It turned out that the teleporters the party had found led to the cells of a prison... the party discovered this when the second prisoner they brought back (after slaughtering the first) turned out to be an elven paladin. After prying Guinsette off her, and checking out the really nasty cell she'd been in, they decided she probably was actually a paladin and actually good, and gave her some of their spare equipment (the +2 longsword of air, and a +2 chain shirt from the hag jailkeeper).
Then the party split up, since with fourteen members it was far too large to fight efficiently in the narrow hallways of the temple. The NPC party wanted to go talk to the red dragon that was off in the other direction, so Bella (whose player was missing) went with them to give them some healing ability. Xaod followed her of course. The idea was to meet up again before resting.
The party looted the now empty chambers of various high priests they'd killed, running up against a spectre (who drained Darian down quite low before Mepechu restored him, and Guinsette down a bit afterwards) and a group of five golems. The golems were difficult to fight -- Thanos was forced to retreat, Mepechu, Guinsette and Darian were badly wounded, and the elven paladin (whose name the party never even got) was splattered into tiny elf-bits. Tenaris continued to survive, annoying Marcus and Guinsette immensely.
The paladin's pieces were gathered up so that the party could raise her from the dead in the morning, or with one of the scrolls... Mepechu's request to reincarnate her as an amusing pet was denied.
Afterwords, they looted the chambers of Hedrick (the high priest they'd killed in Raster). Noting the glyphs on his chest, and having been unimpressed with the weak-ass cold glyphs guarding the chests in the spectre room, Guinsette attempted to open the lock using her (minimal) skills as a rogue, and was very nearly killed by the 'Slay Living' this triggered.
Unsure as to whether the spell would go off again if they tried to open the chest again, the party had Darian shoot the lock off with a magical arrow. To everyone's surprise, it worked! The chest had assorted valuables and some useful equipment, including a lens that helped in detecting traps.
The bookshelf had some magic books, an obvious journal, and another glyph of slay living on it, but Marcus mage-handed the books from across the room, defeating the glyph as its spell was range touch. The journal told the party most of what they already knew from questioning the traitorous priest earlier.
Since, according to their map, the next area was the Greater Temple itself, where the Orb of Silvery Death awaited in the Black Cyst beyond the Purple Veil, and the traps on Hedricks room had wounded most of them slightly, and they were almost out of healing, they decided that they'd gone as far as they were going to get that day, and decided to head back to rejoin their comrades.
