Wednesday, I was kidnapped by family. My mom's in town this week (until next Monday), and that was Danny's birthday. He's three!

Since he likes boats, Anna and Alex decided to have the birthday party on the Seattle-Bainbridge ferry (and back). The previous ferry trip, last summer out to Friday Harbor, was a big hit with the kids, after all...

This time it didn't go quite so well. There were more people, so we wasted a lot of time talking about where to go on the boat and gathering up kids to actually go there. The ferry ride was a LOT shorter. And... BRRR, it was SO COLD outside. So we spent most of the trip inside, where you could hardly tell you were on a boat.

The bunny cupcakes were hit, except with Danny, who didn't want to eat his bunny.

Actually, a lot of the kids had fun running around the ferry (one little girl was extremely amused when I pretended to be pushed over backwards when she hit me, and spent the next ten minutes repeating the process...), but it seemed kind of a waste of the ferry-ness.

Also, parking. OMG parking. Everyone else paid $5 for the 2-hour parking which didn't actually result in them being towed when it took 2 hours and fifteen minutes, but nooo, I was too paranoid, and spent... considerably more than that. Also, I got there way too early, and it would have been almost 3 hours for me. But I should have driven around for a half hour or something.

Afterwards, we hit the aquarium, which was the same as ever -- I've never seen a river otter conscious. Are they nocturnal? Then headed back to Anna's house to... well, mostly struggle to get the kids to go to bed. It was an EPIC struggle. Then Alex got home and we laughed at CakeWrecks.com for a while...

I'll probably visit with them some more this weekend.
