So I bought this karaoke game for the xbox 360, because it said that you could sing songs from your own collection instead of just having to rely on the ones that came with the box, or that you bought on Live. Also, it had some pretty good songs included, like 'Hungry Like the Wolf' and 'Take On Me' (along with a heavy heaping of craptastic filler of course).
Surprisingly, the 'sing from your own collection' actually scores you and tries to keep track of whether you're singing in tune, although since it doesn't know which track is the vocals it just sort of measures whether you're in tune with anything -- you can hum along with the bass, or 'do do do' during the instrumentals, or, well, blow into the microphone to get credit for matching the drums. But let's ignore the *obvious* cheats.
So overall I'm happy with it. The main problems I have with it are:
(1) No depth -- you get a score (and a 'star rating' and 'medals') for your performance, but that's it. It's meant as a party game.
(2) The interface has certain really annoying flaws. Like not having an option for 'add everything on this device to the list of songs' or a way to filter the songs that you've added to the list based on where they came from or if they have chart data.
(3) ARGH THE MICROPHONE. It has a one-button interface that tries to do three different things. 'Turn on', 'turn off', and 'go into setup mode'. They're all more complicated than they need to be, and 'turn off'... well... I still don't know how to turn them off. I've *done* it, but sort of by accident after playing around for a while -- the method in the manual doesn't work.
