There was a vert short shadake game Friday night, because we accidentally blew up the world.

Actually, it wasn't us, despite the GM trying to goad us into it. One of the NPCs did it.

So, they teleported to 'safety', only to have Ethelred follow them. There was nothing for it but to try to fight him!

Cho and Bob tried direct attacks, but couldn't draw on the sphere -- Bob's attack was thus easily dodged, while Cho managed to get hold of him, but his electric attacks were trumped by a specific anti-electric spell.

Mira used her caster to flee to sniping distance, and through the fight kept sniping -- fairly effectively, actually.

Leen attempted to summon help, and summoned Bahamut... with Quinn as his new master. Since Quinn was another of Vaal's pawns, this was NOT helpful, although Bahamut did at least try to kill EVERYONE including Ethelred.

Kit tried to blind Ethelred with a fireball while secretly teleporting away, hoping that with the sphere elsewhere his friends would have better luck (since Ethelred was drawing on the sphere too). But Ethelred *countered* the fireball instead of just dodging or blocking it, and followed along on the teleport. He then tried to disintegrate Kit while they were along together. Since this would leave him in full possession of the sphere, and still a pawn of Vaal, Kit could not allow this! He drew a whoooole bunch of extra mana from the sphere, beyond its nominal capacity, to bounce the spell back at Ethelred, but Ethelred had thought ahead and only attacked with as much force as his protective shields could absorb, although they were destroyed in the process.

Then Bob yanked them both back by using the time powers she'd gained from the fountain of time to negate Kit's teleport spell. Cho still couldn't hurt Ethelred, but grappled him... and then Quinn threw a bottle of Corruption water at them, which merged them astrally into one being -- taking Cho and Ethelred out of the fight while they struggled for dominance.

Before that, though, Ethlered had time to curse Kit with a bunch of portals firing random elements at him. Instead of drawing on the sphere to counter or bounce it, Kit tossed the sphere to Leen in the hopes that she'd teleport it to safety -- "Don't let him break it!" he yelled, which was much too vague, because she didn't teleport away, and instead stayed in the fight trying to deliberately trigger feedback with Bahamut, which gave Bahamut the change to snatch the sphere from her grasp.

And then he used it to free himself from his bonds, and again to try to kill everyone... which would have successfully killed Bob('s body) and Kit and Cho('s body) if Bob hadn't reversed time to counter it for them. This screwed up Kit's curse -- it had been trying to resurrect him, but he was already alive again before it could, which locked it in the wrong phase... giving him full access to the powers of, er, a one-tailed kitsune. Ethelred had long since drained most of his power, and his previous screw up against Krttk had used up the rest.

But the sphere had had enough, and shattered. Bahamut was torn apart instantly... and the rest of the world more slowly, while Kit and the others attempted to stop it or flee (Mira, for example, stowed away on a passing starship).

In the end, the world was split into 28 pieces, each of which was ruled over by only one god. Kit, freed from his spell after a fashion, was one of dozens of six-tailed Kitsune who'd tried to calm the world during the catastrophe, and ended up paranoid lords of a world where everyone was happy except them. Cho turned himself into the binding force that kept the 28 worldlets from colliding with each other.

And even Vaal's plans were foiled, for the moment. Really, it was an outcome to the war that left no one happy. Well, except for the people on Kitsune-world.

last session | next session, different campaign

Next campaign is going to be sci-fi and superheros and purple. We're doing character creation in Mutants and Masterminds, and possibly going to play in that system too, although Lazar kind of wants to try out supers in Shadake. I'm not sure how that would work, but that's kind of why he wants to. Really, I could use a change of systems, though.
