Friday we had a session of the shadake game. We snuck up on the dragon through an underground tunnel, and were resoundingly defeated by it. In its sleep.
The salamander king led them down through his territory to the secret tunnel. On the way, they passed the salamanders' riding chocobo and a bunch of kids tormenting some blink dogs. Kit managed to steal (charm) one of the dogs from the kids (the others resisted, so he figured they must not want to be saved), but the king got away in the confusion, so they went into the tunnels alone.
Fortunately, the tunnels were mostly deserted. There were a bunch of fire traps to get past (they managed to substite bits of witherbark for the dead bodies), and they found some recently killed adventurers, somewhat to their surprise. Most everything had been looted pretty thoroughly, though.
Eventually, they ran into the fish. The fish had horribly weak magic, poisonous little spears, and one overpowered ability to steal anyone else's magic and use it against them. So when Leen tried to freeze them all to the floor, the blink dog swapped places with them nad was killed in their place.
But then two of them got stepped on, and Bob caught the third in his hands. Cho stunned it, and then Kit was able to charm it. "We defend the homeland from all giants! Including the dragon!"
So the charmed fish led them to the dragon's lair. Unfortuantely, the dragon was home. "Okay, you borrow the dragon's magical defenses (since borrowing an ability made it not work for the original person -- for an instant the fish managed to borrow Kit's binding, but he wasns't actually able to remove it that way) and
then Kit can charm it."
Kit thought it was a horrible plan, but agreed to try. He snuck up on the dragon and, in coordination with the fish, cast the most forceful suggestion spell he could manage, suggesting that the dragon fly to Ankh Morpork. The spell would wear off before the dragon arrived, but that would give them two hours to loot its horde before it got back.
Unfortunately, whatever the fish borrowed, it wasn't the dragon's magic-reflection. Kit decided that since he'd cast a powerful suggestion spell on the dragon and it hadn't worked, he really really needed to fly to ankh morport right now. The rest of the party watched him leave...
Bob: "Hey, he stole my fish!"
...and then they turned around and quietly made their way back into the secret tunnels. Round 1: Sleeping dragon.
