No profit in this prophecy
Dec. 23rd, 2007 11:23 pmWell, we played some D+D today. Ed was missing again, so Eric played his character again.
After raising Efneisien from the dead, he remembered a strange dream which the dwarf cross-referenced with an ancient book of prophecy to give the party their next mission -- they had to take Sara and Roger and the kid they'd rescued to the Winter King's palace and marry them at the altar.
...marry them?
Otherwise, there'd be eternal winter, which would eventually spread to the entire world. This was more important than the already behind-schedule mithril shipment, so they agreed to help with the mad plan. The kid said he knew a secret way in.
Z: "Okay, but can you take off that amulet for a second? I want to see if you're really a demon in disguise with an amulet to hide your evil."
K: "But -- but -- my mother gave me this amulet! She said to never ever take it off!"
Zeffy wasn't quite willing to brutalize the kid in front of the rest of the party to take the amulet away, but man that's damn suspicious.
Aaanyway, back at the pass they were attacked by a pair of rhemoraz. Zeffy wanted to charm one, but didn't get the chance before they started eating party members, making their immediate deaths kind of critical. Then they went into the tunnels the rhemoraz had cleared through the avalanche to the secret palace, and came to a very suspicious cavern full of bottomless pits and crystal spiderwebs.
They stared at the maze of slippery, narrow ice bridges running through the room. "Um... there's no actual path to the other side. How did you get through kid?" The kid told them that there used to be a bridge, but it was gone now. Riiiiight. Obviously, he just flew across because he was still in demon form then.
So the party decided to follow his lead and fly across -- Efneisien had the travel domain so he could fly a couple people to carry the others, and then dimension door across with the rest.
Of course, the LZ was hot -- even hotter after Ignaceous lit it up with a fireball. They swarmed into the tunnel the enemies had retreated into (since the enemies had no ranged attacks) and basically overwhelmed them with melee, since they were kind of wimpy except for the cold aura the anti-salamanders had. Zeffy wanted to heal and charm the last surviving salamander (who'd been paralyzed by Efnesien's 'teaching stick') but decided that having someone following them around with a 20-foot damage aura might not actually be as helpful as you'd think.
It was starting to look like she wasn't going to get to charm *anyone*.

...then I went home, totally wiped out from the lack of sleep the night before. I was a little too burned out on CoH to stay awake playing it, but Tabula Rasa had been getting neglected so I played some of that, and it was nice and exciting until, three hours into a huge instance full of difficult enemies, just before facing the final boss, my computer crashed with a CPU over-temperature error. I thought I got rid of those!
BUT Dell did ship my laptop ahead of schedule (although still an unreasonable amount of time after I ordered it) and I should have it later this week. Maybe it will solve all my problems?
