Today we had a session of Eric's Eberron campaign. We talked a lot about 4th edition coming out, although no one really had any info besides what's already on the web.

There was another random encounter on the way to the ruins -- trolls! The trolls were simply no match for the party, though, and Efneisien even had a flaming scimitar to coup-de-grace them with after they were stabbed a lot.

Eventually, though, they got to the 'giant's hands' that was the landmark they'd been told to watch out for. A group of people were camped on the shore using a skiff a lot like the ones the Emerald Claw had used the last time they'd met (while chasing the vampire). Still, they weren't *sure* these were the enemy, so they didn't want to just attack. As the party member with the highest charisma, Zeffy was sent to speak to them.

Them: "Who are you!? State your business!"
Zeffy: "Greetings! We're in pursuit of thieves sent by the wicked, evil, vile Emerald Claw!"
Them: "The Emerald Claw aren't evil!"
Zeffy: "*You* don't work for them, do you?"
Them: "We work for the government of Carthage." <-- government name changed due to bad memory
Ignacious: "That means 'yes'."
Zeffy: "Then we demand you give us back what you stole!"

...well, her only social skill was 'gather information', so it's not really clear what they expected.

So anyway, it was a fight. The Emerald Claw Lackies wanted to run away, and the party didn't want to let them. A quick fireball courtesy of Ignacious made it a lot easier for Heyyou to run in and cleave most of them to death... Cht'cht chased down the one that actually got into the forest, Zeffy took out one with a lucky arrow, Heyyou ran down one that fled on foot along the river, Efneisien climbed into the skiff and tied up one who failed his save against the Hold Person spell for too many rounds in a row.

So, they had prisoners. No one had any skill at interrogation, so Zeffy 'suggested' that one of the prisoners answer all her questions truthfully. Unfortunately, he didn't know shit, except that there were 50 (!!!) men in the Emerald Claw expedition, and that their airship was hiding somewhere in an undisclosed location.

So they took the skiff to the ruins. Which were OMGWTF huge -- a building 400 feet on a side, and 200 feet high. It looked like the enemies had fought their way in through an army of dark elves, using the slave entrance (the main entrance had 10-foot-high giant stairs, so wasn't really passable). Instead of following, the party decided to use a scroll of Locate Object to find one of the stolen schemas (using it to find the missing fourth schema would have been better, but they hadn't seen it and couldn't). The spell pointed to a place near the top floor of the giant pyramid... so they flew their little air-skiff up and landed on the big notch in the roof, where they were attacked by giant apes.

The apes fared about as well as the trolls had. It was pretty sad.
