Stargate?!

Sunday we had a session of Eric's Eberron campaign. It turned out that the jaffa/stargate crap wasn't just randomly added -- the Eastern continent of evil psychic parasites made him think 'these are obviously go'ould', and jaffa style staff-weapons and armor were a good way to have weirdness for their psionic items.

Also, he thought our party was kicking too much ass, and replaced some easier undead with the swarm of rather nasty jaffa.

The stargate was a bit much, though.

The party marched up the final staircase to the top of the pyramid to see a strange sight. The wall of jaffa with staff weapons trained on the staircase was normal by now -- but the violet-eyed woman talking to a man in full armor about the vampire they'd been chasing, who was floating in midair inside a Resilient Sphere -- that was weird.

They couldn't understand what the woman said to her underlings, but it was clear that the fight was on. For once, ludwig charged bravely forwards, trusting in his new armor (he'd been able to figure out how the jaffa armor worked) and psionic powers to protect him, and hoping to draw fire. Which he did. Heyyou and Silas and Zeffy also charged, and soon were starting to drop the front line of defenders.

Which made the big bad take notice. This was bad, because she was a powerful psion, and started toasting the party with elemental AoEs from across the room. Efneisien tried to silence her (and succeeded) but this didn't accomplish anything, since she was a psion and not a spellcaster. Soon, the whole party was badly wounded, a hit or two from death, and while the front line of defenders were down, this left the 'archers' in back and the main bad guy who seemed well able to soak up whatever damage was tossed his way... and THEN the bad guy called out the reinforcements.

And then the psion stunned half the party with a single spell. Zeffy saved the day, though, by taking out the commander with a lucky hit (he'd been hanging on by a thread) and blinding the reinforcements with Glitterdust. The psion could still have killed them all with one more AoE, but she didn't know that and had been planning to leave anyway -- she dialed up her stargate and the rest of the enemies (most of whom were blind) fled through it.

That left the party in control of the pyramid, with a bunch of weird psionic items as loot, and one vampire-in-a-bubble. They didn't have his sword, but threatening to expose him to sunlight got him to reveal that it'd already been taken through the gate.

Oh, and they also found a secret chamber with some more traditional magic items as loot -- a flaming scimitar, a vest of resistance, and some gauntlets of ogre power.

Ludwig's minor psionic powers enabled him to figure out the control device for the vampire's bubble. Or at least, he knew how to turn it off. So he didn't do that, and they dragged the vampire all the way back to Sharn for their reward. The person who'd hired them also payed a decent price for all the psionic items they'd captured (they kept a few that were useful, primarily the armor, which worked like mithril but was unenchantable), since he wanted to know more about this strange enemy, so the party had plenty of gold to blow on new equipment and/or business ventures.
