Who Sent the Sentinels?
Feb. 19th, 2007 12:53 amFriday night we had a session of Lazar's Shadake game. Not a lot of action, but we were presented with an important decision, that seemed to have only one right answer, which my character would never agree to in a million years.
The party finally got back to Cairhein, only to find that, first of all, they were suddenly superheroes returning to a modern city full of skyscrapers, and secondly that the city had, in fact, been conquered -- by mutant-killing Sentinel robots, towering dozens of stories high and guarding all the gates.
But they weren't going to the gates -- they were going to their shop, in Foregate. Which... had been stepped on. Most of Kanwei's 'duplicates' had been crushed in the 'attack', but one had survived to try to salvage what she could, storing it in the forge annex which was the only part of the building to survive. She merged with Kanwei, so the party was able to hear the whole story, which was pretty sad -- Cairhein's military had ridden out to fight the Sentinels, and had a few early victories before they suddenly 'adapted' to the military's tactics and quickly crushed them. Then the heroes of the city had flown out to attack as well, and had mostly been killed or captured. Even Magneto had pitched in, but had been forced to flee or be captured.
Obviously, fighting the Sentinels was right out.
So they put 'samples' of their 'wierd tech' in the truck that was actually registered in the city, stashed the rest in the underground chamber that they'd been intending to eventually make into their secret base -- it was secret at least, just not very basey -- and snuck into the city to talk to Zack.
Zack bought a bunch of 'weird tech' off them, for around $300k, and then hired Sophia on as a bodyguard. They also met Ash again, who'd faced the vampire several times, but eventually had lost the trail and returned a failure. When they mentioned the way the world kept changing on them, Ash mentioned that he was sort of in the same boat -- or at least, that he was aware of the changes too, unlike most of the population.
They figured it was probably because he had been present at the weird maze-thing when the 'crack' in the dreamworld had started, too.
Anyway, a little later, Sophia came to tell them that Lucrecia had tried to break into Zack's house to steal one of the minor useless ter'angreal they'd sold him a long time back -- the cracked orb with a magnet on a stick. She'd offered to ally with them for the purpose of fixing the crack before the whole world dissolved as the weave was irrevocably damaged.
"The crack is growing, about five feet per day," she told them, repeating Lucrecia's words, "She said it suddenly grew twenty yards when you touched it, Fezzik."
"Then there's only one thing to do," Fezzik replied, "Go and keep touching the crack until the world is destroyed. At least that way she won't win either."

We ended the session without really making a decision, which is probably good since Snowwy wasn't there.
