Against my will, I was forced -- FORCED -- to play about six hours of NWN2 yesterday. Because Windows decided to spend four hours downloading patches, and then the virus scanner decided it needed to spend another hour on its own patch, and by that point it was getting late and I probably would have had to solo anyway.

NWN2 really needs a party selection screen that doesn't require you to go back to Neverwinter and walk in and out of the damn pub. For most of the time I ended up being stuck with a party of Casamir (paladin), Khelgar (fighter), and Neeshka (rogue) to go with my own paladin/sorcerer whose only third level spell was greater mage armor. On the plus side, everyone in that group except Neeshka was pretty strong, so I was able to carry the approximately 70,000 gp worth of treasure I accumulated without anyone being encumbered.

So, anyway, once I'd beated the (fourth) big scary boss by having Neeshka hang back and use various bard and sorcerer-only magic items while I burned all my 3rd level slots on the newly learned fireball spell, I headed back to Neverwinter, and went through the painful process of organizing everyones' inventory when I had to zone twice to change party members, and kept triggering random encounters right outside the inn.

"Hi, we're some street kids, and we're forcing you to accept this quest to find us a home."
"Er, okay..."
"Hi, we're a gaggle of really stupid student wizards who think that having all of us cast melf's acid arrow at you in unison will somehow prevent you from fireballing the crap out of us."
*made concentration* *made concentration* *made concentration* *made concentration* *made concentration* *made concentration* "Fireball!"
"Oh look, a wounded wolf! It's a pity Elanee isn't in the party right now to come heal and talk to it."

Aaaanyway, although it took enough zone transitions to choke a horse, I finally was able to do my first bit of *useful* crafting... I'd had Elanee take craft magic arms and armor, and the bard had the craft alchemy needed to get the essences, and Neeshka was holding all the gems, so eventually I was able to enchant Khelgar's Bone Phoenix up to +3.

And since talking to the wolf gave Elanee a sidequest, I'm putting her back in the party instead of the bard... although bards are pretty damn powerful in NWN2. Hard to argue with a primary caster who can barkskin, stoneskin, and protect the whole party from energy, though. Pity that leaves her without any offensive spells, but did I mention I have fireball now?
