Last Friday, I had a session of the Shadake game I've been running. For some reason (family in town) I haven't gotten around to writing it up until now.

The hawks approached the giant seed pod zepplin, and started up some stormy winds to blow it off course. Unfortunately for everyone involved, this meant they had to get close enough for Zedd to start teleporting hallucinogenic pills into their mouths. He got two birds that way, and they flew off chasing phantoms, but not before one had set the canopy on fire with a lightning bolt, and another (this one not insane) killed the songbirds that Den had been using to steer.

So, the balloon crashed. Slowly, as even on fire a balloon full of hydrogen doesn't really plummet, and they'd already been going lower before it caught fire. Bella managed to grab hold of some trees using the dangling vines as tentacles, and lower everyone to the ground in one piece.

But then the hawks poured on the storm, putting out the fire, at least, but also filling the remaining half of the envelope with water, until it broke loose of the trees it was snagged in and deluged the army, killing a few, pinning more beneath branches and piles of supplies, and making the rest scurry out into the storm to get soaked.

Then, the birds had the temperature plummet, freezing the water solid and threatening to kill more of the survivors. Also, a thick fog rolled in to keep them from coordinating well.

But Bella and Zed managed to keep their heads together and save people -- removing the branches pinning them, setting huge bonfires to warm them up. Of course, once the birds spotted the bonfires, they summoned up heavy winds to put them out... not realizing they were bonfires, perhaps. The forest caught fire...

The end result was that the army was scattered through the forest (as whenever they gathered the birds would harrass them), Seek was overwhelmed by disaster, had a nervous breakdown, and ran off, and Bella, Zed, and Den decided to abandon them to the animals and head to Portland, where they assumed the animals were being controlled from.

Before they got very far, though, a cat teleported in and kidnapped Bella. Zed gave it a pill to make it go crazy too, but that didn't bring Bella back. She found herself in the dry bed of a former lake, encrusted with salt for some ungodly reason -- no plants to use nearby aside from her own body and the seeds she had with her. Also, guarded by a giant wolverine similar to one that had mauled her before. She decided to wait for a rescue, instead of trying to escape herself, not wanting to face the beast alone.

Unfortunately, a rescue was not immediately forthcoming, as Den and Zedd found when they finally got to Portland. The outskirts of the city were abandoned, but inside the perimeter life went on more or less as normal. It was a large city, larger than Spokane, with a dome over the city center and, as far as they could tell, no knowledge that the animal attacks on the city were being directed by the Carnival -- they'd recognized the types of animals used against them, so it wasn't a stretch to figure out the Carnival was behind the attacks.

But that meant they'd apparently gone the wrong direction, to rescue Bella.

last session | next session

Snowwy was running the enemies this time. I was hoping they'd track them back to him and rescue him, but... that didn't happen. Maybe next time. This session was also kind of short because everyone was really late -- we didn't start playing until 9:30.
