Things were going pretty slowly with Flamekin... between the glacial team I complained about in the last post, Crossroads (the Spindizzy guild) being just enough lower than me that I usually needed to exemplar down to them, and a respec task force that the group also made me exemplar on (to 25 -- losing Inertial Reduction, my travel power) he seemed like he was going to be stuck at 30 forever.

But last night I got in a couple of really great teams -- they had tanks that wanted to lead off every group, yes, but they didn't insist on going around herding crap, and let people attack whenever they thought it was time -- and everyone was smart enough for that to be 'right after the enemies bunch up around the tank'. So, 3-4 seconds, instead of the 30-40 seconds the stupid herding tanks usually require.

Both teams also had enough stacked leadership to let us fight +3s and +4s quickly and safely. This made the incoming xp rate pretty crazy -- in about 2.5 hours, I went from 30.75 to 32.05. That is, I hit 32 last night even with some time spent soloing a green story arc and a mission exemped with Crossroads. And side quests to get 'Ectoplasmic' and 'Devilfish'.

Level 32 with a fire controller can mean only one thing -- flaming monkeys! Er, fire imps. That look just like 'Rikti Monkeys' except that they are on fire.

They're not slotted up yet, of course, but between speed boost and siphon power that matters less for a /kin than for other fire 'trollers. Also, I was taking them up against a green story arc, so they were kind of silly overkill.

Supposedly, now that I have fire imps, I don't need to team with Flamekin anymore, but if I wanted to not team I wouldn't be playing CoH.

Meanwhile, Disgaea 2 has hit a snag. I unlocked the Dark Guide who lets you travel to the Dark World, not thinking about how if the Dark World is unlocked, you'll get randomly sucked into it if you fulfill the conditions on a normal story map. So there I was, happily playing through a story map (an old one, to try to level up some just-reincarnated people), when one of my people got killed, triggering a one-way trip to a dark world map full of about 20 level 120 zombies, each of which could kill several of my people in a single attack. GAME OVER.

I guess this means it's item world or nothing to level up, since it'll be a long time before my team can take on more than one level 120 enemy at a time. I looked on gamefaqs, and I think you get the choice of whether or not to go to the dark world if you unlock it in the actual storyline.

Worst comes to worst, I can level a team of invincible badasses in item world, then only pull them out if I get sucked into the dark world. Still... what was I thinking?
