Bouncing Around
Jul. 4th, 2006 12:53 pmLex had another session of his D20 modern game. There were hints that the utter silliness was a cover for something more sinister.
The encounter with the simpsons didn't go well. After scaring off the kids, the cops arrived and tried to arrest everyone. Chit (disguised as Courage) pretended to freak out and hide in the ship. Yes, 'pretended'. Honest. Where he found a mysterious message telling them to go to these strange coordinates where friends would help them.
To aid in the escape, he tried to land the ship between the cops and the other escapees, but accidentally landed it on top of the cops. Regardless, they quickly headed for the designated coordinates, since the technomage (who was the only one who recognized anything on the planet) thought that it would be a good idea.
The coordinates led them to the Justice League of America, where the stupid technomage blabbed the whole story, and the stupid wonder-woman's stupid lasso kept Chit from covering for them. Fortunately, the story made no sense whatsoever -- no one in the JLA had ever heard of the Alliance, or of any of the other places they'd been.
With a horrible whining noise, they suddenly found themselves instead in the Xavier Institute for the gifted. After a short tour, the whining noise started again, and they knew they were about to jump somewhere else. "No consequences! Shoot everything!"
The bounced to South Park, where they killed Cartman, then to a jungle where they were almost eaten by King Kong. By this point, the technomage had started to catch glimpses of a strange man with blue circuitry on his skin during each jump, although he didn't tell anyone else about it. They also had a theory that whenever Chit talked about changing dimensions, they'd shift, and that therefore they should kill him.
But instead, they sent him up to scout for the source of the gigantic footprints, then tried to take off without him in his own ship. They had a change of heart, though, and picked him up from the treetop, just before they suddenly jumped again, and found themselves in deep space, with sign of any nearby planets and no power. And no technomage, as he was unconscious, having been zapped by something during the jump.
Luckily, there was enough junk in the cargo bay to get the engine working and the fusion plant recharged, although with only about a week of power. In case there was something wrong with the ship that had drained the power, Chit disconnected all nonessential components... and then found himself spending the rest of the trip reconnecting them one by one as they needed them.
The nav computer revealed that they were way, way the hell away from the weird cartoon planet, and even farther from Alliance space. The stars around there weren't even charted at all...
Luckily, before long they were picked up by a Rikunese carrier, whose crew worshipped Riku Darkfighter as some sort of 'ancient' ancestor of their race. They were taken to the capitol of the galactic Rikunese empire, and given tons of upgrades and weapons and the promise of lots of money for doing a job for the emporer.
They were a bit too distracted by the thought of all that money to really listen to what the job was, but it was clear that it involved going out to some asteroid and looking into some disappearances. After using their new slip-drive to blink there in minutes, they tried to remember whether the asteroid was hostile or not, and came up with some plans for infiltrating it without causing suspicion. Then all decided to use different plans without telling each other, leading to massive confusion and a confrontration with security in the infirmary after it was discovered that Riku's injuries were fake.
"Why don't you tell us why you're really here," said the security guard, hand on his weapon...
