Sunday gather was well attended this time -- a lot of local people who don't often show up were there, and Brellan and company came up from Olympia. Brellan's still snuggly, despite having not only a master now but a pet and a boyfriend. All long-distance-over-the-internet. I don't really understand the whole 'having a relationship over the internet' thing; it seems like pretending to have a relationship over the internet instead would have all the advantages and none of the drawbacks.

Aanyway, Legend put on Star Wars Ep. 3 to demonstrate some new speakers or whatever, and was surprised when everyone wanted to watch the rest. "It's really an awful movie..." But of course, what everyone wanted to do was mock it, which we did, mercilessly. Well, I was snuggling in the back of the room during the really boring parts (like the nine hours of 'walking through hallways at sunset, talking' in the middle), but other people were mocking.

Afterwards, I played some more magic with Kits and Brellan and Lexx and Elle. Kits was really proud of his new Golgari deck, which is, in fact, fairly nasty... but it's slow at the start, with only Golgari guildmages and thugs for 2 drops, shambling shell for 3, and savra for 4. This tends to make it fail to survive long enough to get out its nasty stuff, if people focus on it or in a duel. He still won his share of games, though, since people rarely focus and we were playing multiplayer...

At the end, after everyone else had left, we played some duels, though, and that was where the hurting began. Tims came out and killed all his creatures as fast as he could play them, while making him redraw golgari thug every turn. Ninjas bounced his creatures long enough to smash his face. Boros flew over the heads of his critters with double-striking sunforger-wielding carrier pigeons. Snakes summoned up a bunch of large trampling critters. Then, rats.

Rats led with a ravenous rats, to which he discarded Sisters of Stone Death. Oops. "Well, let's see if you play a vigor mortis before I get out Ink Eyes," I said nervously, but he'd played first and already had a vigor mortis in hand, so out came the Sisters, and one after another the rats that were thrown down as chump blockers were RFG, although he didn't have enough mana to do that and bring them back into play, especially after I Befouled his double-land (cursed 'non-black' clause). I put down a phyrexian arena and hoped for an answer... but ran out of creatures before drawing enough land for the consume spirit to take out the sisters, since she had a couple +1+1 counters.

Once, twice, SMASH in the face... I'd survived that long by consuming his other creature (a guildmage), but now I was at nine life and totally open to the 9/7 sisters... and he didn't attack. Because he never goes for the kill, he always tries to taunt his opponents and drag out the game as long as possible, just to rub it in their face.

But the next card I drew was swamp + last gasp, so I was able to take out the sisters with another consume. Next turn, ink eyes, although he got a junktroller to keep me from putting the sisters into play. Next turn, rav+rav+marrow gnawer. And then the horde started building from there... marrow gnawer is hard to fight without pinpoint removal once he gets going, and soon he was nibbled to death.

I wonder if he'll learn his lesson.
