City of Blasters
Sep. 9th, 2005 10:03 amCinnamon wasn't significantly affected by the CoH changes. Defiance is useless, but the defence she lost was pretty piddly, and the reduction in the accuracy of the more dangerous enemies seems to make up for it. Might respec out of the stealth pool, although it's slightly more convenient than using super-speed for stealth still (because of the zipping around uncontrollably problem) -- it might be nice to have rain of fire *and* a snipe, and otherwise I'll have to choose between them.
Tanks can still herd. At least, stone tanks with granite armor can. They can't keep their herds taunted, though, so it's instant death if anyone else tries to help or, you know, gets within 80 feet. At least when the tank herds 30 or 40 things at once. "Bring smaller herds!" the group complained after the third wipe-except-for-the-invulnerable-tank, but he never did. So we started picking stragglers off his herd before he was done, and killing them ourselves. For some reason, this made him angry, even though (a) we didn't all die, and (b) it's not like it took him more time to kill 30 things than it had to kill 40.
To be fair, the tank was also six levels higher than everyone else. I've decided this is NEVER a good idea, in any game.
There were lots of bubblers, but the bubbles really aren't very good anymore. They're okay against whites, but like tissue paper against reds, once six-slotted with SOs. I guess that was probably the intention.
The main thing, though, is that ice patch wasn't nerfed -- it's still perma unslotted (with hasten). This is good, in that /ice isn't made into a useless secondary, since ice patch is just about the only worthwhile power in it (and certainly the best), but it's kind of weird to lay down a patch at the same time a controller lays down a slick, and see the patch last twice as long.
And yes, there were lots and lots of blasters at all levels -- many more than I've ever seen. People got their old ones out of retirement, or created new ones and PLd them up to the 20s. Everyone else was hit really hard by the global defense and control nerf... well, except for defenders. There were lots of defenders too. Groups used to be 'scrapper scrapper tanker tanker defender controller' typically, and now they're like 'blaster blaster blaster defender defender controller'. Seriously, I expected a controller genocide, but there's as many around as there ever were -- but tankers and scrappers are seriously scarce.
