Invisible Robots From Hell!

We had a session of Jeff's Star Wars d20 game. It started off pretty awful, but once we got into combat things went better.
So the three jedi (shh, there used to be more, but don't tell anyone!) were recruited by the Mon Calamari Liberation Organization to help them throw the empire off their planet. It was explained that there were four major targets under heavy imperial control (as opposed to 'technically under imperial control and under the threat of orbital bombardment from the remaining capital ships', like the rest of the surface).
One was the facility they'd just escaped from, one was a gas mining operation, one was a mineral mining operation, and the fourth was the main Mon Calamari shipyards, which the Moncal were understandably eager to recover. If they could take the shipyards, its defenses could take out the interdictor, and then the rest of their space fleet could hyper in and fight off the weakened imperial garrison.
The shipyard was by far the hardest target, though, with over a thousand imperials on site, and sensors that even superior Moncal technology couldn't hope to sneak past... but they thought they'd be able to smuggle a small group inside using a regularly scheduled ore cart from the mining facility, or alternatively they could get the passcodes from the research facility.
Because it was crucial that no word get back to the base of the initial assault, and because going in completely undetected was better than landing in their main hangar with imperial codes that would stop working the instant the imperials saw Kuu, they decided to hit the mining facility. The moncal could jam its communications temporarily in a way that would look natural, and then insert a virus that would continue to send routine status updates... but there was only room for a small strike force, which meant they needed the jedi.
They had about a week to get ready for the assault, and were able to requisition masterwork equipment -- so they bought an old R4 unit (since Ituda's brush with death had made him swear off the adventuring stuff, and instead he'd opened a bar) and outfitted themselves with masterwork light armor (which they could wear even though they were nonproficient) and some +2 blasters. Ituda also gave Druu Kai a half dozen 'special' ion grenades to try out.
For the assault, they also took along Sepna as a demolitions expert, a squid-person sneaky guy to disable the tidal generators before the assault, and a Moncal heavy weapons team with an e-web. Between the e-web and the droid, the stealth-crawler was pretty packed.
They managed to jam the transmissions and cut the power okay, and snuck into the driod bay undetected. Unfortunately, they didn't have a map of the facility, and the next door they picked to open revealed a huge smelting chamber with six troopers on patrol.
Since they weren't spotted immediately, Kuu made an illusion of some extra boxes in a good spot to set up the e-web, and they crept into position to set it up. The troopers heard them, but weren't sure that what they were hearing was real in time to avoid getting shot in the back by the e-web...
Four of the troopers went down almost immediately -- the e-web took out three, Kuu (who'd snuck up close using burst of speed -- it was a HUGE room) took out a fourth. Druu Kai was in position to fight the last two... it would have been a slaughter, if the troopers had been the primary enemy forces in the room.
Kunda and the e-web squad at least got to see the nearly-invisible force-screened droids as they attacked with vibro-blades... Kuu and Druu Kai just knew that someone, somewhere, had just shot them with some sort of super-magnetic shotgun.
Kuu jumped back down off the catwalk and took cover, enhancing his senses to try to spot whatever was shooting at him, but Druu Kai still had two troopers to fight! He took down one, but the other stunned him with a grenade, and he got shot again. Kuu managed to hear vaguely where that shot came from, though, and was able to hover up there on a crate and get the droids in range of his moncal electro-goggles' blindsight, which let him dodge their next attacks.
Kuu's plan was to hold them hovering with move object out of line of sight of everyone until the rest of the room was cleared, but they were *way* too heavy for that to work for long... and they had repulsor lifts, so they didn't just dangle helplessly. They hovered out of his grip and vanished, although he got a glimpse of them heading for Kunda and the e-web. Druu Kai was safe, at least, as the last trooper was fleeing for reinforcements.
At the e-web, Kunda and the e-web on full auto barely managed to take down one of the two droids attacking, and were not *entirely* sure that they'd lose against the second, when a pair of rail-shotgun blasts came in and detonated the e-web's generator. It went off like a thermal detonator, but no one (including the e-webbers and, sadly, the droid) was actually killed. The e-webbers took out their blaster cannons (backup weapons) and one got a lucky shot, disabling the droid's stealth field. Between them, they managed to take it out, since the other two droids only got the one volley off before Kuu and Druu Kai engaged them.
Kuu ran along the catwalks above them until reacquiring them as a target, basically, then lit them up with a volley of blaster fire, which failed to penetrate their shields, but let Druu Kai see where to toss one of his special ion grenades. The grenades were *extra* special, and detonated one of the droids outright while nearly disabling the other. Unfortuantely, it also fried Kuu's blasters and electro goggles... but he still had his sabers, which were better shielded against ion.
So Kuu screamed and leaped at the droid, and it welcomed him with open arms, grappling him and then self-destructing. Ouch. x.x
After a round-robin of force healing, the jedi were at about 12 vitality each, when the second wave of enemies came down the lift... and got blown up by Sepna's bombs that he'd spent the whole battle setting.
This gave them a little breathing room. R4 couldn't replace the generator of the e-web in less than an hour, but he did access the droid control system and was able to tell them that there were at least six more of the nasty droids on the station -- four guarding the main hangar, and two most likely in the control room. There was also a medical bay, which had Kolto tanks. Kolto was sort of like Bacta, but *better* -- snacking on a bit of it gave about 20 more vitality each, and it would only take three hours to heal up all wound damage by submersing in it. Of course, the moncal didn't think to tell the jedi that it was highly addictive.
At any rate, they had no choice but to assault the control room and plant the virus, before the believable window of 'natural' jamming would run out. So they climbed up the ladder in the remains of the turbolift, forced open the door, and found themselves facing the massed guns of the rest of the imperial garrison, which they hadn't really expected -- apparently, the top level was *just* the control room. They were ready for *some* resistance, at least...
The one e-webber who'd come along with them decided to be a hero, and grabbed a special ion grenade off Druu Kai's belt (with his permission), shot a climbing line to zip him up to the top of the shaft, and ionned the pair of droids in the front line. Again, this took out one and mostly disabled the other, but the red guard at the far end of the room used the force to shatter the zipline and send him plummetting to a very messy death.
Druu Kai and Kunda finished off the remaining driod and stood with sabers out, ready to deflect incoming blaster bolts. Kuu tossed glop grenades into the pits where the ranks of standard troopers were preparing to fire. Sepna stole another of Druu Kai's grenades and tossed it at the red guard and the two ARC troopers with him, which (after all the secondary explosions were over, from the guided missiles which *detonated* as the black lightning hit them) took out the red guard and the missileer, and left the officer unarmed, although his armor still worked.
It also left Druu Kai and Kunda nearly dead, as one of the missiles was already locked on, and another hit the wall near them, and the standard troopers weren't as hopeless with their blaster rifles as one might prefer.
Still, the main enemies were down, and it was basically cleanup. Druu Kai stunned half the unglopped troopers, Kuu and Sepna started gunning them down, and Kunda ran over to finish off the officer, who put up a good fight just with his combat gloves. They won, though, and had enough time before the main attack was scheduled to run Kunda and Druu Kai through the kolto tanks and deionize Kuu's blasters and goggles and such.

Stacey and Dave basically can't play any more -- they got jobs which keep them from showing up on Mondays, at least, and no one is willing to move the game for them since they've been fairly unreliable anyway. Jeff posted on the work RPG board asking for more players, and got a few nibbles, but they'd need us to move the game to Thursdays. Maybe we will, I don't know.
