Are you sure we're not playing EQ?
Apr. 18th, 2005 10:15 amCoH had been working well all last week, but I had trouble connecting this morning. Fortunately, I had a workaround that actually worked from the boards that I hadn't had to use before (that let you run the game without running the updater first, so it's not something you'd want to do all the time, or possibly at all), so I got on with my scrapper, planning to spend 40 min or so soloing.
I got a tell from someone almost immediately telling me to come help them with a mission in the hollows. "I don't know, I have to leave soon," I said, "But I guess I have time for *one* mission." It was a group of three, so I figured it'd go fast.
By the time I got to the Hollows it was a group of six, and yes, the mission door was in the far corner. I managed to get there by following the zone wall, but even though I told people over and over 'don't run through the gulch, you will die' and 'if you follow the zone wall you can at least see the enemies', most everyone else tried to run through the gulch, dying repeatedly. Some of them quit, but new people were constantly being invited, while I sat at the mission door watching the clock.
I warned them that I had 20 minutes left before I had to leave, and they decided to try to take on the mission with only the six who'd made it so far, but there were no controllers or defenders and only one tank, so it was pure chaos... and I was playing my *spines* scrapper, who wants the enemies in a group so that I can AoE them. Plus, I was the lowest in the group, so everything was red and purple. We retreated with two deaths, having killed six of the ten trolls in the first grouping.
The other people we were waiting on still weren't anywhere near the mission, and just as we left I checked the map and saw a green arrow go rapidly orange and red in the middle of the gulch. *Sigh*.
They refused to attack with a partial group after that, and eventually I had to leave, before anyone else managed to make it to the door (the empty spaces had a 200% turnover rate in that time period, as most people were unwilling to try to cross the hollows multiple times, and quit after their first death getting to the mission).
Punchline: It was still better xp/hour than I get soloing with my controller. }:)
