Last night we had a session of the GURPS campaign... I hadn't done much planning for it because I was busy playing City of Heroes all night, but there were some old monsters lying around that I threw in in place of newly crafted baddies, and we had a big fight. Plus, Lazar's wild magic caused chaos.

Kitten, having finally gotten his enchantment skill up to the point where he could attempt the Bless spell, decided to try it out... and succeeded! Sort of. While he somehow got the threads of the spell to work despite having only the slightest chance, his magic went wild and instead of blessing him, summoned 1634 randomly targetted machines of a certain type anywhere in the world to come towards him under their own power.

The first Don and John saw of this was their vehicle driving off the cliff, and splashing into the lake. The second was part of the city detaching from the rocky walls and walking towards them on four building-sized 'legs', with the strange hamster-tunnel connectors acting as limbs. Then, they started running away.

They hadn't run far before they ran into the ambush, where the mage's friends had set up their second line of defense -- just as the party ran out onto a pre-placed ice slick, three Kits leaped out of the bushes and attacked! They dodged the initial attacks, but as John went skidding across the ice, two of the Kits focused on Kitten and the third on Don.

Kitten was in no shape to cast magic, so after wrapping his bola around one of the Kits' necks, he ran away, getting out a grenade. Not being familiar with the whole timed nature of the grenades, he ended up playing hot-potato with it with one of the Kits, until the Kit decided to tackled him to the ground and just kill him with its claws. Kitten, remembering what had happened last time, and that he was currently immune to lightning, tried to disperse the surrounding storm (that the valley was nestled in the eye of) immediately, once again failing horribly and bringing down a massive barrage of lightning on himself.

While this did kill the Kit, and not Kitten because he was immune, the flash did blind and disorient and scare him... and leave him trapped in a pit, helpless, as burning trees fell to bury him. Then, the grenade (that he was still holding) went off. Fortuantely, it was a '-10 to all rolls' grenade and not any sort of actual damage effect.

Meanwhile, Don and John were fighting off the other two Kits, while a pair of mages occasionally sniped with charged up ice missiles and concussion blasts. One of the Kits was stabbed and shot, and ran off licking its wounds... but the other seemed unbeatable -- ludicrously strong and agile and healthy...

But it didn't have John's speed, which gave John five attacks to its one. Sooner or later, John was bound to get lucky, right? Unfortuately, for John, it didn't need to get lucky to make its one attack count, and only John's chaperone fetish saved his life. Instead of getting eviscerated, he was sent skidding back across the ice and into the underbrush, horribly wounded.

By this time, Don had taken down one of the mages, the one throwing ice around. But now the Kit was ready to tear his head off... except that John was still really really fast, even hideously wounded, and was able to stealthily creep to a sniping position and take out one of the Kit's eyes. Distracted, it tried to find who'd shot him, but somehow failed [it rolled a 17, which is an automatic failure], giving John the opportunity to take out its other eye, blinding it. Blind, it was in trouble, so it ran off, stumbling into the cloud of debilitating smoke from the grenade, and then got stepped on by the building. Oops.

The remaining mage got off another concussive blast, but John was able to sneak up on him quickly (thanks to his celerity) and shoot him in the groin. Repeatedly. Faster than the mage could cast 'deflect missile'. Don got the actual kill, though.

With the battle over, Don and John tried to locate Kitten. The building had stopped chasing them (after reaching Kitten, and placing one of its feet over the pit he was trapped in), and even their vehicle had driven up out of the lake and parked nearby. Don used some magic-sensing goggles he'd acquired a loooong time ago with Kitten's ressurection stone to tune them so that they could see the connection between the stone and Kitten... and it pointed right at the building-foot.

So John opened the door, revealing a blue-lit room with every surface covered in frost. He stepped inside... and was encased in ice. Breaking out was easy, but ruined not only his armor, but his clothing and the strength enhancements on his arms, leaving him totally naked! He did managed to catch his gun and sword before they fell to the ground and shattered, and he went back outside and carefully set them down to thaw.

Underground, Kitten recovered from the lightning blast only to find himself trapped beneath a building. The owl spirit was there, and Kitten berated it for not helping them. It explained that it had only been instructed to summon help if they were struggling against the magic of the talismans, and that wasn't what they'd been having problems with. It did tell him where a trapdoor in the bottom of the building-foot was...

Kitten was able to use a few bits of minor magic, even under the effects of the grenad, and dug to the trapdoor, and opened it... but unlike John, he recognized the signs of an absolute zero field, and tested it with a stick. *shatter*. So he didn't go inside. Instead, he set an air golem to slowly dig his way out... until eventually remembering 'shape earth', which was much faster. He got outside just after John's escapade, and immediately started looting the dead mages.

However, as he moved to get to the second mage, who was a ways away down the path, the building started chasing after him again. Spooked (and at -10 to fright checks thanks to the grenade), he fell into a coma! The building didn't step on him again this time, at least...

While waiting for him to wake up, Don started fixing their vehicle (it'd basically lost its front set of wheels driving off the cliff, luckily the engine was in back near the propellers) and John decided to explore the building-mech. He climbed up the outside to the 'head', which was obviously a control room, and went inside to check it out. Of course, he couldn't make heads or tails of the controls, but pushing random buttons was Don's job, so he reported back.

Once Kitten woke up (70 minutes later), he expressed the desire to wait until tomorrow to continue the assault, since he was pretty useless until then, thanks to the grenade. They decided that the control room of the building-mech would be a good place to sleep.
