Also: Dinner with a dragon.
We had a session of Tom's D+D game, wherein we finished the second adventure and started on the third, which Tom didn't have prepared, because Eric was supposed to prepare it over the two weeks since the last session and forgot. So, working on a vague storyline, Tom improvised. Cue doom music!
So the necromancer had taken cover in the crypt, leaving five skeletons (and one remaining mummy) outside to deal with the party and the local heroes. The skeletons were somewhat fearsome, but Rhiannon managed to take out most of them with a greater turning attempt, just before the skeleton leader teleporter her, Morgan, and the local dwarf away. This time, Samuel recognized it as teleportation (instead of, say, disintegration), and recommended that they back off until they could find the rest of the party, since there weren't very many of the party left at this point... but a few lucky shots finished off the last skeletons, so it was okay.
Meanwhile, however, the local cleric decided that leaving the necromancer alone in the crypt was a bad idea, so she rushed up and flung open the door, and was immediately attacked by a wraith! The remaining party members (Samuel, Raiina, and Zanzibar) started to move in to help her, just as the mummy finally made its way out of the web and started moving in from the other side. Since the mummy was immune to almost everything, the cleric turned and zapped it with a second flame strike, which didn't kill it, while Raiina and Zanzibar drove the wraith back into the crypt with ranged attacks... and, after it lurked behind *another* door to get in *another* 'surprise' attack, finished it off.
The mummy was finished off by a wall of fire spell from the local wizard, who'd otherwise been completely useless. Taking extra damage from area spells *and* fire, it didn't survive a tight ring of fire centered on it and focused inwards.
That just left the necromancer. This could have been a dangerous fight, but he was trapped in a small space and had neglected to memorize any silent spells, while the remaining combatants did not need to speak to kick his butt. They filled most of the crypt with silence, and although he managed to send Raiina comatose with an Eyebite, he never got a chance to cast his *really* dangerous spells, and the teleported party members returned and surrounded him in a silent corner, forcing him to surrender. They stripped him of his equipment (and any remaining dignity) and took him into custody.
The local heroes took the good loot, unfortunately, and the party discovered that they'd forgotten, in the heat of battle, to negotiate getting any actual payment for their help from the church. Grr. Still, they walked out of it with a Cloak of the Bat, which they were able to sell for a good price back in Wheloon. And the church agreed to commission custom magic items for them at book-standard market price, although not in so many words. This was significantly cheaper than the prices charged at the actual Wheloon market.
Before the commissioned items could be finished, though, Morgan found them another job. One of the local lords said that 'Lord Silverhawk', who lived in Hermit's Woods (and was, perhaps, the Hermit of the woods, given that he was a known recluse who'd lived there for hundreds of years), had kidnapped his daughter, taking not only her but all of her clothing and other possessions. And her luggage, too! And at such an inconvenient time, just when she was about to be wed to his best friend's son, the captain of the guard!
For a hefty sum (well, 1000 gp each) the party agreed to investigate the 'kidnapping'. Rhiannon's news that Lord Silverhawk was secretly a silver dragon made them fairly certain that actually rescuing her would be both unnecessary and suicidal, but hey, they could take the guy's money and go make sure she was okay.
Despite their fears, they were not attacked by owlbears in Hermit's Woods, or by the Green Guardians. They *were* attacked by gnolls, but they weren't very powerful or smart gnolls. Oh, and an obviously evil minion contacted them and asked them to steal an amulet from Silverhawk's horde, but they refused and the minion just ran off. So they reached Lord Silverhawk's castle without much incident, and were invited to dine with him, an invitation that they of course accepted.
The dragon -- er, that is, the mysterious reclusive hermit admitted that the princess was in his castle, but insisted that she was there of her own free will. "Can one of us talk to her to make sure of that?" Samuel asked. "Of course, Rhiannon is welcome to talk to her." Zanzibar tried to tag along as Rhiannon's attendant, after the dragon retired for the evening, but the servants weren't buying it.
The princess insisted that she was in the castle of her own free will, and that she was afraid of her father and of the captain of the guard -- she was here for sanctuary, and hadn't yet decided whether she'd stay or leave. Zanzibar talked to the servants of the castle, and all of them told the same story -- they were here of their own free will, and would never want to leave! Besides, the woods were full of gnolls, and that green dragon Silverhawk had mentioned (who wanted her amulet back), and other nasty things.
So, anyway, they weren't about to kidnap the princess back against her will, but Silverhawk agreed to escort her to town to reassure her father (and publically demonstrate that she was leaving of her own free will)... although, of course, he wanted them to clean out the gnolls before the trip, since otherwise the princess might be in danger. Not wanting to come back empty handed, the party agreed.

Before, after, and during the game, Josh, Eric, Tom, and now Michelle kept constantly getting distracted talking about City of Heroes. Apparently, Michelle was installing CoH during the game on her laptop, and then later building a character... gah. There were also dozens of phone calls, screaming children running everywhere, and... cookies. Girl Scout Cookies, being bought and sold and passed around. It was chaos!
