Billing?

Yesterdy I went to the meet, but it was kind of, well... hardly anyone showed up, at first -- just Legend and Flamey, and Flamey wasn't really interested in talking, it seemed. He brought a DVD to give to werepuppy, and we watched it over at Havoqx's place later.

Somehow, we all survived the drive up there, although there were some close calls -- following someone on the freeway is never safe, and through a drive-thru presents some logistical problems. But, anyway, once we got there, I mostly sat around in the living room with the other couple people who didn't like thick clouds of smoke.

So I headed home after a little bit, had some cottage cheese and microwave pizza, watched cartoons, and played a little more Paper Mario.

In the morning, I decided it was time to pay the bills that were piling up and getting near due, and found that the cable bill was... a bit confusing. I eventually figured out why -- they were billing me for the partial month of DVR service for the previous month, as well as for the coming month, but how much of the partial month needed to be billed for had changed because of the whole 'oh, right, we were supposed to actually send someone out to install it, for that appointment you made' fiasco, so they'd subtracted off the charges and added them back on.

The math was a little wonky:
Partial month (12/20-1/14): +9.06
Partial month (12/20-1/14): -8.63
Partial month (12/27-1/14): +7.53
whole month (1/15 - 2/18): +9.95

Or something like that. It looked like I was basically getting screwed out of forty cents, and possibly overcharged for the service I did have. But the actual error was this:

Installation 12/21 (single trip): 15.99
Installation 12/28 (single trip): 15.99

For one thing, they'd never mentioned anything about installation charges. Are they allowed to just bill you for something without actually telling you it costs money? I could have installed it myself easily enough, since it involves plugging in two wires.

Mostly, though, it was them billing me for the trip that they didn't actually make. They took it right off when I called them up, though. Or at least, they said they did. I'll have to call back and verify the amount due.
