The Care and Feeding of the Green Blob
Dec. 16th, 2004 02:24 pmI have a pound of green silly putty. When you have that much of it all in one place, it's really obvious that this is a liquid, not a solid -- you can set it somewhere and watch it flow, and not just flow, but smooth out on top as the ripples settle. It also means that if you press your finger against the top of the blob, no matter how little pressure you put on it, it'll slowly sink in. It's viscous, to be sure, but it doesn't have any particular preference for keeping its shape. And it doesn't seem to have much surface tension, if any.
I probably shouldn't keep it at work. It isn't going to help my productivity -- I don't have an egg big enough to keep it in (a pantyhose egg would still be too small, if they even make those anymore), so I have to keep squishing and folding it until it fits on the little square of cellophane that it came wrapped in, and that I foolishly tore open to get at it more quickly...
