Doom, eh?

I'd say I was disappointed that Kerry didn't win, but I didn't really think he had a chance. He got reasonably close. Joy.

Bush said that he'd be conciliatory towards the democrats, and involve them more in running the country... but then, he said that four years ago, too, and basically spat on the whole idea, starting pretty much immediately.

I've heard several doom-ridden scenarios:
  • Bush is going to load the Supreme Court with extremists, while his congress passes laws allowing them to hold the justices hostage under threat of imprisonment if they try to strike down any more laws, including the law itself, which is clearly unconstitutional. (this destroys the system of checks and balances, and basically makes the constitution worthless)
  • Bush is going to continue being completely predictable in his so-called war against terror, allowing the terrorists to continue to dictate our policy abroad. (this results in the physical destruction of the country)
  • Since Diebold demonstrated its effectiveness at delivering key states, it'll be made mandatory countrywide, so this is the last election where *any* votes count (and the last was the last election where there was any hope of the opposition winning). (this makes the country no longer be a democracy)

But again, if we go by the example of four years ago, what actually happens will be *worse*. Unimaginably worse, on the 'I can't believe anyone could even conceive of doing that' level.

And somehow, half the country will think it's a good idea. v.v
