Took the bus again today. It doesn't really come at a convenient time for me, unless I'm running behind. So I get to play a lot of GBA at the bus stop.

I've been playing the GBA Zoids game. Apparently, it's the second GBA Zoids game. Huh. It's... at least somewhat addictive, which is a good thing. At the start, it was simple -- you had one Zoid, maybe two when a person was with you for story reasons, and the enemies you were up against were really easy. Still, they were enough of a speedbump that you could feel the effect when you upped various stats and tried out new weapons.

You fought in a few arenas, got Bit as a partner, went to a few cities, and then -- a crazy old man gives you a new zoid, better in some fundamental ways than the one you've been upgrading all along, but weaker in others until you find the money to upgrade it, and an organoid with strange powers you don't understand. And Bit leaves you.

Then you fight in *one* battle, and suddenly get saddled with three new pilots and four new zoids, with a confusing (and as it turns out, mostly useless) combination power that makes you ditch your new new Zoid (which you just spent the dregs of your money upgrading) for the unoccupied Zoid to test it out.

But before you can actually fight using it, you get warped to another world without any good stores (the stores there sell only expensive and heavy equipment that you could never use) and WHAM, three MORE new pilots and four MORE new Zoids with their own combination (that I never bothered trying out). AND Van joins you, with his blade liger.

So there I was, with ten Zoids that I had no feel for and had basically never fought with, but were way more powerful than the old familiar Zoids, and a gaggle of pilots that meant nothing to me, and I wanted to strangle someone. Since the fights started getting *hard* about then.

By now, though, I've got this entourage about sorted out, and Van left so I don't have to fill a space with a guest character, and I'm getting some crucial upgrades and equipment in, and even building a few new zoids to replace the weaker 'blox' zoids. So things are looking up.

I've also got a cold. Monday night during the game, I had a distractingly nasty head-and-toothache, but I put it off to having failed to properly brush my teeth after eating cake at the meeting. But, no, it was a cold coming on. I'm just glad that by now it's moved on to 'sniffles' instead of 'throbbing headaches and sweaty feverish dizziness'.
