Sometimes I feel I've got to... Run
Jul. 18th, 2004 06:28 pmThere was this Shadowrun game, today, a full session of it for once. It didn't go so well for me.
The warehouse of the factory the runners were investigating was also booby-trapped, just like the factory -- this time Jet *actually* set off the trap, but wasn't injured by the falling boxes. Shinji, invisibly leaping from box to box (showing off while invisible is a sign of a truly disturbed mind) was the first to find the cat.
The cat played with him a bit (despite his invisibility), which made Jet suspicious. "It's some sort of magic critter, most likely. Try and catch it so we can dissect it."
That made the cat angry, and it tried to cast a stink spell, but Jet resisted. The other dwarf went nuts and opened fire with his assault rifle, chasing the spirit away. After the combat (such as it was) the mage informed the trigger-happy sammie that the fire elemental was really big and probably could have kicked all of their butts. Shinji concurred. Everyone else was just pissed that the ghost they'd been hired to exterminate had gotten away.
But, hidden under the elemental's lair was one of the missing workers, trapped in an abandoned sewer. "I was lured to the corner by a meowing noise, then pushed down here and the metal plate shoved on top to trap me here." The peace contingent refused to take this as evidence of the elemental's malaevolence.
The runners spent a long time tracking down all their other leads, and found that the OTHER two missing workers were likely not trapped in deserted sewers -- they'd both gotten tickets to airline flights just before disappearing. They set their agency's runner on tracking down what that meant, and if they were connected, then decided to head back so that the peace contigent (only) could go back in and try to have peaceful contact with the elemental.
Instead of the elemental, however, they were ambushed by a horde of thugs, backed up by an invincible magician. The thugs weren't much threat, and accomplished nothing but making Shinji and the mage waste time and magic killing them, but the wizard resisted every spell, and then powerballed both Shinji and the mage half to death.
Luckily, the rest of the party arrived at that point, bursting through the door. Jet charged the mage, whiffed with his axe, and was dropped with an instant deadly wound from a 'touch of death' from the still-unwounded mage. Then Jade's drone flew in and shredded the mage with its minigun, and the remaining goons surrendered.
Jet was nearly unhealable (too much bioware) and had to be stabilized with a trauma patch. He'd be in the hospital for fifteen days in intensive care, total cost: 15k. 11k more than he had. Maybe someone'd loan him money? Otherwise he'd just get tossed in the gutter, or disassembled for parts.
[No backlink because the last few sessions were short and not really well recorded.]
"So, should I make a new character, or just sit the next couple sessions out?"
I never actually got an answer to that, despite asking about ten times.
