Well, Eric finished the 'rescue the prisoners through the stargate' RP in typical form -- a big combat, then gloss over the actual rescue of the prisoners and all.

The combat was a little too complicated for him to run quickly, for some reason -- it was progressing at about 30 minutes per combat round, which is just silly.

At least this time he forced Dave and Tom to stop playing City of Heroes while the game was on. Sheesh! That didn't stop Dave and Tom AND ERIC from delaying the game a couple hours chatting about it. It's decided -- I'm not going to play CoH. Grr.

After killing the psion and his escorts, the party was able to rest right out there in the middle of the hall (in the rope trick) without being disturbed, all night and then some -- Ethan was rescued from his crystal prison in the morning, but then needed 8 hours of rest himself to regain his power points, which they figured they'd probably need.

Ethan and Hiko wanted to avoid the crystal golem, but the others figured that the prisoners were probably being guarded by it, and insisted on heading right for it. But that wasn't enough -- they also had to alert the enemies by sending prying eyes scouting it out in detail, and when the room was cloaked in darkness upon their approach, Alaric asked Ethan to dispel the darkness. So the attack wasn't as much of a surprise to the room's inhabitants as the party may have wanted.

The room was a bridge over a pit of unknown depth, with the golem in the middle, and two walkways around the edge where the golem could be bypassed. Ledges above the walkways offered a perch for archers, while swordsmen waited on the sides to keep the party from taking any route but the bridge. Of course, Hiko and Garden were more than willing to oblige, rushing in very fast while the rest of the party moved up behind them more slowly, while the golem threw out its free Dispel Psionics.

The archers proved to be very dangerous, using Manyshot and Greater Psionic Arrow to do vicious damage. Hiko, who'd run up all the way to the golem to take his swing, discovered not only the power of the arrows, and of the golem's fists, but of the invisible drow monk that appeared behind him, to give him a few love taps.

Meanwhile, Gardan was attacked by a pair of devils released from glowing balls to either side of the bridge, as well as by the melee giths blocking the side pathways. He fought back with tooth and claw, but found it hard to hurt the devils.

It took a while for the bulk of the party to make it down the hall, but once they did, things started to turn around. As soon as Aliera saw a person at a console at the far end of the room, she teleported into his little protective force bubble and cut him down in a single blow as he tried to flee. So much for the boss (apparently an executive manager type). Dawn force-caged the golem. No SR, no dispel, no nothing. So much for the golem. Ethan used Mass Ectoplasmic Coccoon to trick the giths on one side into using their dimension door ability... which he then diverted to have them appear over the pit. They screamed as they fell, until very strange noises from below spoke of their demise.

For a while, Hiko fought back and forth with the monk, neither of them having much effect on the other. Aliera moved up to support him, while Alaric supported Gardan in reducing the devils and sword-giths. Dawn prismatic sprayed, taking out one devil (it turned to stone) and driving an archer insane -- the archer then killed off two of his buddies. Score! Alaric used a wall of stone to block off the third platform, Ethan summoned a construct on the fourth, and that was that. Soon the enemies were all running or dead.

The prisoners the party was searching for were, indeed, in the room, trapped in the other two glowing spheres, so they rescued them, looted all the bodies, and went to rest and memorise the divinations they'd need to get home in one group (since they'd have to use two plane-shifts, and would end up hundreds if not thousands of miles apart, otherwise).

There was, of course, no reward for completing the mission. They couldn't even get the standard half value for the loot from the city's merchants (even teleporting to shop around). What a gyp.

Now there's a very very annoying ringing noise, like a fire alarm, going off out my window. I thought it was our fire alarm at first, but it's definately coming in from outside. I wish it would stop. It's getting on my nerves.

As for the game, it looks like we're going to play Shadowrun next.
