This was another session of Jeff's Dragonlance campaign. After resting the night, the party tried once again to rescue the 'special elves' held prisoner in the evil fortress, and once again were sent running with their tails between their legs, although this time one of them was dead. Nobody important, though.

Last time, the party killed the guard dogs, some giants, and a few dragonspawn ogres before running for cover. The snowstorm wasn't as heavy on the second day, so they decided to go in invisibly and flying -- Kijj could carry everyone except for Sonnet's dog, who could fly on his own with that belt of his. Invisibilty was provided by a scroll of Invisibility Sphere.

And, it worked. They got inside, into the still-deserted kennel, and listened at the doors. The ogres' room was occupied (the ogres were complaining about their missing comrades), but the draconians' seemed to still be empty, so they quietly (well, not THAT quietly -- SQUEAK!) opened the door and snuck through the smashed and burned remains of the furniture (at least the corpses were gone) to the main hallway, and from there to where they figured the stairs might be.

Unfortunately, it was guarded by giants. Kinda. There were giants there, talking. Some of the giants heard them, but seeing nothing waved it off as 'stupid ogres'. Then, as Morgan carefully opened the door... is squeaked, loudly, and two of the giants saw through the illusion of a closed door they'd asked the luckstone to put in place.

So the party killed them all, with fireballs. The giants never really got to act. Somehow, this failed to raise the alarm -- maybe the luckstone had covered for them?

Up the stairs they crept -- on the other side of the door at the top of the stairs were more voices, so the party decided to try the same plan again -- open the door, and blast with fireballs until everything stopped moving.

It didn't work quite as well this time -- there were six dragonspawn ogres in the large room, too spread out to hit with fireballs, and the only cluster was clustered around a Table of Absorbtion, which sucked the first fireball into itself. Sonnet summoned a swarm which miraculously nauseated one of the ogres, while another one charged and bull rushed Gogo down the stairs. He survived Morgan's backstabs and Kijj's spear, but was finished off by one of his friends using a necklace of fireballs. Followed closely by another fireball from another ogre.

Mike sent yet another fireball back into the room, though, and managed to detonate both necklaces, killing three ogres in one fell swoop -- then Kijj and Morgan and GoGo finished off the last two in melee.

Sonnet, Sawyer, GoGo, and Murphy were all in really bad shape after all that. While they were getting healed, Kij and Morgan looted the ogres, discovering (among other things) admantium bands on their clubs which could be attached to other weapons, making them admantium for a minute, once a day.

In the next room waited a hydra. A twelve-headed hydra, that breathed frost, and wasn't affected by Slow spells, more's the pity. It made a beeline for Murphy, but by the time it arrived, Mike had his Aegis on the wizard, and it wasn't able to kill him. Still, in the two rounds that it was alive, it badly wounded most of the party, again.

Some rapid healing was applied, while Mike gathered the hydra's blood for use in item creation, but it wasn't long before Kijj and Morgan, guarding the far door, were ambushed by Ogre Magi stealing a page from their book -- creating an illusion of a closed door, then opening it and blasting cones of cold through. Morgan evaded the attack easily, but Kijj's amulet was stuck resisting fire, so he was helpless before the assault, and was badly wounded.

Kijj did see through the illusion, though, and saw the ogre magi -- not just ogre magi, but dragonspawn ogre magi -- waiting on the other side turn invisible and... well, he didn't see what they did next. With them was what was obviously their boss -- a massive half dragon ogre with a really, really big axe. The ogre advanced on Kijj, and tried to sunder his spear, but missed and hit Kijj's last remaining mirror image's spear instead. Kijj, doubting his ability to withstand even a single blow from the huge, terrifying ogre, dimension-doored as far away as he could get and still have line of sight.

Meanwhile, the ogre magi were filtering invisibly through the room, gathering to aim their cones of cold at the wizards. Murphy's arcane sight revealed four of them, and he caught two in a glitterdust, after which Mike blew them up with a fireball -- BOOM, dead ogre magi. The remaining cones of cold bounced off the protection-from-cold the mages had on themselves, and the next round the process was repeated... although the fireball failed to affect either ogre magi. Oops!

Back by the door, Sonnet and Sawyer, who'd run up to shoot arrows at the boss ogre while it looked like Kijj was going to fight it in melee, found themselves in melee with the beast. They hurt it, slightly, before Sawyer was slaughtered in a sequence of unbeleivably vicious axe chops. Kijj flung magic missiles from across the room, to no avail -- the boss ogre resisted magic too.

So the party executed their final plan, and gathered around Mike and Murphy, who teleported them to Palanthas.

After arriving in Palanthas and selling their stuff and so on, they realized that they'd left Kijj's familiar behind in the fort (since he doesn't go into buildings with Kijj, by default). Along with Thor, and the elves. Oops!

The boss ogre did fifty points a hit, with four attacks per round. No one in the party can stand up to him in melee. Well, unless he's Slowed, or something...
