FUCKING COMPUTERS!!!!!
Aug. 21st, 2005 11:58 amWell, for a while now I've been suffering with a low frame rate in certain sections of CoH and EQ2. People were assuring me that it was dial-up lag slowing me down, especially after I upgraded my video card and it basically did nothing.
So, anyway, yesterday I bought some oldish PC games, single player, non-internet related, and today I was bored enough to try installing them and playing them. TRY to play them, anyway. All of them had the same sucky frame rate.
So, yeah. It has nothing to do with dialup, it's just that my computer sucks. I don't know why -- it's got a faster processor than any of the games recommend, more memory, a later-generation video card, everything -- but you put it all together and, apparently, it's a huge pile of crap.
And no, the fucking LCD monitor that needs to run at the same resolution all the time isn't helping, but even if I switch down to a lower resolution (which looks like crap on the LCD) it still isn't even remotely acceptable.
Fuck. That's what I get for having someone build it for me, instead of going to Dell or Gateway or someone who knows what the fuck they're doing.
Suspicious thing: The video card is AGP, but it's hanging off the PCI bus through an 'AGP to PCI bridge'. Is that how it's supposed to work, or is this motherboard just sort of faking that it has AGP?
