Step 3: Haven't connected; Quit and restart updater
Step 4: Play Tron 2, finish a level, save
Step 5: Haven't connected; Quit and restart updater
Step 6: Repeat steps 4-5
Step 7: Put on an Anime DVD, watch an episode
Step 8: Haven't connected; Quit and restart updater
Step 9: Repeat steps 7-8
Step 10: Give up, but leave the computer on just in case while taking a nap.
Step 11: Wake up, and see that it finally connected.
So it took four hours yesterday, which is sadly typical. I'm considering just leaving the computer on all the time at the login screen... no one ever sends me phone messages I need to actually handle anyway, and I can access the internet from the laptop using connection sharing.
