After a normal weekend (which means playing lots of Magic), the ludicrously mild sore throat I've had for a week or so still hadn't gone away, so I made an appointment to go in to GHC and get it checked out. I was embarassed to go in for it, because it doesn't really hurt much, but... well, I've heard really nasty things about Strep, things like 'if you fight it off on your own, your immune system devours your organs and you die'.
GHC was on strike, which meant... well, nothing really. There were maybe 20 people picketing it with vague signs (I think they were campaigning for health benefits for their family, or something), but inside it was just as slow and incompetent as always.
It took maybe a half hour to get to see the doctor, who said that it *looked* like strep -- which I verified later looking at my tonsils in the mirror there, something the lighting is wrong to do in my own mirror at home. So he sent me over to the lab for a test, which came back negative. Still, it was obviously some sort of infection (my tonsils were bloated and covered in white lesions) so I got put on penicillin while they do more extensive tests.
Which I hope I'm not allergic to. I remember I was allergic to *something* as a kid, but I don't remember what. My old medical records from my pediatrician are lost in the sands of time, so...
At any rate, yeah, it looks like I have strep, so people I might have caught it from or exposed to it (it's from sharing drinks and water fountains and the like, right?) may want to take a lingering sore throat seriously, if they show any signs of it. Lex and Chris would be the two that immediately come to mind. Or I could have caught it from work -- a LOT of people at work have been calling in sick lately.
