Tonight was more of Jeff's Dragonlance campaign. We struck viciously at the enemy's outposts, then walked into their fortress and confronted their leader in his center of power. THEN discovered that he was, in fact, their leader, and not just some corrupt intermediary we could bribe. Oops!

It's a pretty low blow to make your lawful good minotaur swear not to speak during a critical negotiation 'because he'll screw it up', then try to sell him out RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, with him not able to say a word. They're just lucky Kijj is too stupid to remember the incident.

This morning, I installed ITunes on my laptop, and after searching around and finding most of my mp3 files (I can't find 'Run With Us; I suspect it might be an mp2 file) I synced everything to the ipod, since the laptop *does* have a firewire port.

This leaves me with scads of David Bowie, Kate Bush, and Marillion, and a scattering of other songs, mostly without artist or album names attached. I'm not sure if 'shuffle everything' is picking up the songs without names... I think it is, since the last song it picked was by harveydanger, and I don't *think* the harveydanger songs had info.

It came with headphones, so I listened to some music while taking my morning walk. I feel a bit nervous walking around with a $200 piece of electronics in my pocket (or however much it costs, I think it's more), but it's a fairly safe neighborhood. It's the slums of Bellevue, but I mean, come on, it's *Bellevue*.

Aside from making it hard to search through the songs without artist and album info (they don't seem to be sorted in any particular order, although it looks like they might be all at the end of the songs that *do* have artist info), and periodic skipping if I play it while walking, it works okay.

This one probably isn't amusing at all if you aren't involved in the Seattle furry community referenced (basically the PSFG).

After work, I stopped by best buy to see what they had in the way of ipod stuff. The answer was 'nothing', but they did have a generic headphone jack to radio adaptor that powered itself out of a car's cigarette lighter (note: the Civic Hybrid's cigarette lighter will not actually light a cigarette; it's even labeled '12 volt DC power outlet') and looked like it was designed to broadcast on any frequency. And was pretty cheap, at least compared to the ipod-specific one.

The dark side of 'broadcast on any frequency' was an extremely fiddley analog tuning wheel -- it took at least fifteen minutes to get the car radio and the transmitter aligned. Although, unless someone jostles it or something, I shouldn't have to do that again. I also had to adjust the ipod's volume to something deafening in order to have it be audible over the radio...

But that potential problem turned out to be a nonissue, since the crappy walkman speakers I had at home also needed the volume turned way up to play at a decent volume. I think I'll definately use those from now on, and not just because the white earphones are a big 'rob me' sign -- I've already lost two of the four little foam covers that came with the ipod headphones, in one day of use. Plus, sticking things in my ears got less and less comfortable the longer I left them there.

Then I got home, and spent an hour or two filling out the band name info for all the unlabeled mp3s, deleting the blank ones from the list, and picking up a bunch I'd missed because they were in the wrong place (mostly, They Might Be Giants).
