Dead Reckoning
Sep. 24th, 2003 12:06 pmTraffic was really horrible yesterday, at least according to the WSDOT traffic website, so when 520 was still solid black going across the water at 7:15, I decided to just take I-90.
It went well across the water... there's something about I-90 that always makes me kind of nervous, although I can never put my finger on it, but the car was solid and traffic wasn't too bad, although at one point I got behind someone going really slow and was being passed on both the left and the right. I hate that.
The off-ramp from I-90 to I-5 to 'Seattle Center' was a little complicated, though, and I ended up heading south instead of north. The route that I normally take, the one given to me by Mapquest a while ago, goes north around Queen Anne Hill, and then straight up the big horrible steep hill dividing Magnolia from the rest of Seattle. Pretty much the worst possible route, but it's the one I have memorized.
Since I was already going the wrong way for that, though, I decided to try to use the better route that I knew existed -- taking one of the streets straight through the middle of Seattle just south of Seattle Center, then taking the Magnolia Bridge which goes around the south side of the big horrible steep hill and coming up on their house from the south.
Somehow, even though it was dark, and I couldn't read the street signs, and I didn't remember what any of the streets I was looking for were named anyway, I managed to make it without even any wrong turns. It was strange... normally, when given the opportunity, I make the worst possible choice at every intersection and end up in some other county.
I guess whatever guardian demon makes my life difficult felt sorry for poor Mikey.
