Got up an hour early to take the car in to get fixed... they have a shuttle to work, which got me hear nearly an hour before I'd usually show up.

So, of course, my stomach thinks that it's 11 already and that I should GO EAT NOW, but the cafeteria won't open for another hour.

And I'm tired, since I didn't get enough sleep last night. I started playing the new 'Ark the Lad', and it isn't exactly save-point rich. I was up 'till 1:22 after deciding to stop at the next save point at midnight. Gah. Why do games *do* that sort of thing?

...I made the wrong choice. I always make the wrong choice, even if I change my mind.

The dealer came up with about $2000 worth of stuff wrong with the car, none of which (really, not a single item) matched up with the $2000 worth of work suggested by the other mechanic. By not fixing things that don't sound all that serious (even though of course they're 'concerned') like oil leaks that mysteriously fail to leave oil underneath the car ever (but OTOH have been reported by several different people), I can probably get it out of the shop for only about $1000... $600 of which is the problem I brought it in for (the brakes being fuxored) and the regular maintenance that was almost due and I told them to go ahead with. Because I'm stupid.

#$%^&.

They also said that the check engine light was caused by the 02 sensor, which the other mechanic had said definately wasn't the problem. So at least one of them is either on crack or lying. At any rate I'm not fixing it.

On the other hand, if I can get another 6 months life out of the car (replacing it this winter, like I'd originally planned) it'll be sort of almost worth it, from a linear depreciation sense. On the other other hand, what are the chances that nothing else will break in the next 6 months?

They also say they might need to keep the car overnight, which would leave me pretty much stranded at work, unless I want to take the bus. Well, okay, I'd just take the bus, but I hate taking the bus.

I'm currently hating the car, the dealer, the universe, and myself, in that order.

A group of people are lost in a park as night falls, trying to find the way to their cabin, where they'll be warm and safe and happy. Unfortunately, they're tied together by short ropes, blindfolded, and disagree over where the cabin might be located -- some say it has to be on the beach, others say it's at the top of a treacherous cliff, others want to search for it in the woods.

So you have people trying to feel their way blindly in three different directions, not to mention others who decide to instead search the ground for loose change someone might have dropped, or pick each others' pockets.

How long will it take them to find the cabin, assuming no such cabin exists?

This is long. I think it's fairly interesting/amusing, but YMMV, so I'll put it in a cut.

I got my car back, although I had to ride a bus to the dealer... )

Then got some ice cream. )

Then hassled with MSN billing because they were overcharging me. )

Now all I want is for nothing bad or unexpected to happen for the next six months. x.x
