Chicken Rip Off
May. 20th, 2003 12:22 pmThe cafeteria was charging $5 for an 'asian chicken skewer' meal, which turned out, to the dismay of the person ahead of me in line, to consist of a single chicken skewer. Fortunately, I didn't want a chicken skewer, but since the portions looked to be rather skimpy, I asked 'How many wings would I get?'
Wings, it turned out, were a 'side dish', so for $5 I got 3 orders of wings (enough to almost be an entree) and two sides -- fried rice and an egg roll.
The wings were truly awful -- not poor quality, it's just that I don't really like teriyaki, and didn't have the presence of mind to intuit that if the asian counter is serving wings, they're probably going to be teriyaki.
The fried rice and egg roll were extremely good, however, once doused in Mae Ploy. Pretty much everything they serve at the asian counter needs to be doused in Mae Ploy before you can eat it. Maybe I should have done the wings too.
I was pounced by the testers' lunch group (this is a good thing, it's who I eat lunch with when I eat lunch with anyone) and this time no one started talking about the books they've read, so I wasn't forced to flee for my life.
(If this shows up four times, blame LJ being all 'cannot locate server'y)
