If at first you don't succeed...
Oct. 22nd, 2002 01:40 pmGive up. And try again later. At least, that always works for me.
I mean, yesterday I was on the verge of a panic attack when no less than *four* seemingly unrelated problems appeared when I made a simple change... I've got a very low specific heat for emotions, so it doesn't take much to get there, but it also doesn't take much to back off: I managed to fend off madness by eating some Lucky Charms (I keep them in my office), gnawing on my knuckles, and then leaving and going home for the day (it was about that time anyway).
Today, the problems are no less inexplicable or difficult to track down, but at least I can think about them instead of spinning internally about how unfair it is that nothing works like it's supposed to.
Taking naps can also be remarkably productive, even though I dream about science fiction movies or video games rather than whatever problem I'm stuck on. I'll wake up and go 'oh!'.
Therefore, I can rationalize working short hours and sleeping on the job. It's virtually required by my work ethic!
