Okay. Apparently, DVD players are disposable. Mine lasted through five DVDs, eating the fifth -- instead of ejecting, it just makes a grinding noise.
What's the best way to pry it open so that I can get my DVD back?
EDIT: After disassembling the whole player (rule #1: if you take out enough screws, it will fall apart) I discovered two things.
(a) It had a warrantee, or at least a 'breaking this invalidates the warrantee' sticker that broke before I noticed it existed, and
(b) I could have, in theory, pried off the faceplate to get at the manual override. Although I tried that, and it didn't seem to want to come off until all the screws were off. Even though none of the screws were anywhere near it.
