Today was the GM switching campaign at Tom's house, where Eric took over running a very old 1st edition D+D module that he converted to 3.5.
It was the lower level party playing for this game, that is:
Tachi, a weasel druid who's only about half civilized.
Albinus, an extremely bloodthirsty sorcerer.
Al, a whirling-dervish-in-training, new to the party.
Felinne, an archer.
and Sierra, a pacifist witch, with her assorted pets.
Diego the pathetic rogue was along, but his player was not, so he spent the entire time draped over his camel, wracked with an incurable disease.
The lot of them were invited to the desert sort of near Waterdeep on a diplomatic mission, which went horribly wrong after an incident involving the court wizard's mistresses, leaving them stranded in the desert on a 'special mission' to find the bandits that seemed to operating from the approximate direction of this desert of 'treasure and death'. They were given a week's water, but were dropped two weeks into the desert, and it was suggested that heading away from their erstwhile allies was their only chance of survival.
Of course, Sierra or Tachi could create enough water for the party without using up even half their cantrips, so they weren't too worried. But there *was* supposed to be treasure in the desert, so why not?
Albinus' hawk familiar scouted ahead for them, but other than a few rune-covered ruins (and not even interesting runes, according to Sierra, who could read them) and some pathetic mephits, the desert was just... empty. Hot, and empty. Until on a long forward scouting mission, Albinus' hawk spotted a pyramid.
That night, they were assaulted by a ghostly figure which told them a story of sorrow and regret, and begged them to rob its 'theftproof' tomb. So when they approached the pyramid, and were challenged by the guards, 'Why do you come here?' they of course cheerfully replied, 'We were told to rob this tomb!'
This, of course, led to combat.
The guards weren't much of a threat -- Tachi's weasel latched onto one, Sierra put it to sleep, and the weasel tore out its throat to make sure it would never wake up. Then Tachi leapt on the other one and latched on, and Sierra cast a hold person... at Tachi.
"Oh right, you don't like us killing people. Sorry, I forgot."
So, after getting unparalyzed, Tachi got up and took out a rope to tie up the other guard, who'd been beaten down but then healed up by Sierra, who didn't know 'cure minor'. This time, Sierra's spell failed to paralyze its target, but the foolish guard couldn't hit anyone and was eventually beaten down again, and TACHI cast cure minor to heal him without waking him up. AFTER tying him up, instead of before, this time.
Albinus was Not Amused by this whole thing, and fumed angrily. Sierra did charm the poor fool and get him to tell them what he knew, which really wasn't much. Then they 'disguised' themselves as the guards and went in the front (and apparently only) door.
The disguise didn't work, and they found themselves fighting more guards. Tachi's weasel and Al held the front line, while Felinne fired over the weasel's shoulders and the spellcasters backed WAY up out of the silence the enemy cleric had cast at them and tossed spells. It wasn't a very hard fight, but a couple lucky hits took down the weasel, and even after some healing it was barely conscious and could only stumble along behind the party as they alternately lay in wait for waves of recklessly charging attacking fanatics, and charged recklessly at the fanatics' prepared positions. They chased the last runner all the way around the temple, Albinus and Tachi falling a bit behind because of their failure to jump an overturned table no one else had bothered to shove aside, and found that it had a backdoor, and outside was...
...a cliffhanger!
last week next session
The game was fun, but there was some drama online afterwards (all I can say is, Morticon... WTF?), and I was annoyed for a while, but I'm getting better now.
