Ballot Hunt
Nov. 4th, 2003 11:09 amI'd planned to vote today at the end of the little walk down to Sammamish Hi that I've been trying to start doing regularly, but last night a note appeared on my door giving 48 hours notice that my apartment was being inspected, so during the time that I'd planned to walk around, I was taking out the trash and such.
'48 hours' really isn't enough notice, at least not when I don't see it until after midnight and it's telling me they're coming in on the morning after next. I'll be spending tonight cleaning the bathroom. Yay.
Anyway, I didn't have enough time to walk, so I drove down to the high school, which, as I'd suspected, was under construction. I parked where I could, and walked halfway around the building/construction site to the entrance, where I was glowered at by hall monitors and librarians. No voting was happening at Sammamish Hi. They sent me to Lake Ridge Elementary, a few blocks farther south.
At Lake Ridge Elementary, some voting was happening, but not for my precinct. Since it was a real polling place, though, they had the list of all the places including the one I actually needed to find, which was at the Neighborhood Church. Next door to my apartment building.
So I went there and voted. Glowery people lurked in those halls as well. Glowery, soft-spoken people who became suspicious when I didn't answer their indecipherable challenge. The people actually running the poll were nice enough, though.
Still with all the running around I was late for work. Not that anyone really keeps track. I'm just glad I hadn't tried to walk!
