Oh, Brother
Nov. 2nd, 2003 11:08 pmThere was a Sunday movie gather today, with a very high attendance since everyone wanted to see the movie in question, 'Brother Bear'.
Most people, afterwards, professed to like it. And for a Disney movie, it was likeable enough, if you ignore the parts that made me cringe.
The strange thing is, that despite really only wanting to see the movie because of a perverse fascination with transformation, the part of the movie that I liked was when he *wasn't* a bear.
A significant part of that was that, as a bear, he had a huge, ugly head.
But more important was that while the setup was fine, the key plot points were in the wrong order -- he had a change of heart before the only thing that could have reasonably been the trigger. And the ONLY possible excuse for the ending was so that they could make a sequel.
I'd say I was disappointed, but that would be implying that I expected it to be good, which I didn't.
