Paradigm Shift: Aborted
Oct. 21st, 2003 10:57 pmMy mother's in town, still, mostly visiting with my sister('s baby), but wanted to take me out to dinner tonight, just her and me and my aunt. She asked when would be a good time, last Sunday, and I told her I was pretty sure I'd be home from work by 7pm on Tuesday, but -- hey, she has a cell phone, right? I'll just call her and confirm.
Of course, it should have been obvious that a cell phone belonging to someone who lives in Ohio would be a long distance call from Bellevue, so I couldn't call from work as I'd planned. I tried to dial it as a local number, just in case (you can dial the 206 numbers that way -- leave off the '1') and got a mysterious, scratchy line. Hey, that sounds like a cell phone... maybe it worked?

Um, nope, didn't work.
So I called when I got home, and got a generic voice-mail message ('please leave a message at the tone', in a generic phone-robot voice). I left a message, but didn't really have much hope she'd get it, since it was already 6:30pm and she was probably on her way (we'd agreed that if I didn't call, she'd come meet me at 7pm as planned).
And she did, indeed, arrive, but when I told her I'd left a message on her voice mail, she checked it -- no message. At least, not from me. Had I gotten a wrong number? Who can tell?
Dinner was nice, but I don't think I'll be getting a cell phone anytime soon.
