Time for Change
Sep. 16th, 2003 03:38 pmI went over to the cafeteria just not to get a mocha smoothie, but at the last second decided to change my mind and get some two-for-one afternoon bake-sale muffings and a latte.
This came to more than the small change I had on me, so I had to pay with a twenty. The cashier gave me change for a ten. I pointed this out, and after managing to get through the language barrier (few of the workers in the cafeteria are from this country; she looks Russian) she reluctantly gave me the proper change.
Of course, while waiting for the coffee, I had to second-guess myself. *Had* I given her a ten? I wasn't sure. I remember looking right at it and thinking '20', but...
At any rate, my mind was set at ease when she gave me my coffee and apologized suspiciously profusely for giving me the wrong change. Obviously, she'd been trying to steal from me, otherwise she wouldn't have been so apologetic.
