Today was the DM switching game at Tom's place, with Tom as the DM. We rescued a helpless maiden, and because no good deed goes unpunished, were forced to take on a daunting task, or risk being indebted to the fairy court.
After their late employer 'released them from their contract', the party rested overnight in the woodsmen's camp, then started on the trek back to Waterdeep.
After a long day's walk, they heard a small, high-pitched voice screaming for help a ways off, and immediately headed over in that direction to see what was going on. At the sight of a man in robes torturing something that could both talk and fit in a birdcage, Tachi immediately cast a Briar Web on the huddled humans and shouted out, "Stop right there, foul defilers of the forest!"
Somewhat to his surprise, the rest of the party took this as the cue to attack, with sleep spells and magic missiles. Two of the enemy dropped, and two broke loose from the entangling vines and started running away, taking damage in the process. The mage was still entangled, and still had the caged fairy.
"Drop the fairy, and no one else has to get hurt more," Tachi offered, but the mage was having none of it, until Burne charged right through the briars and walloped him upside the head with the pointy edge of a broadsword, at which point he surrendered, complaining that he hadn't done anything wrong, since she was 'only a fairy', and all he wanted was the wish that everyone knew fairies could grant.
Burne, of course, wanted to kill the prisoners. The fairy was consulted, and thought that was a fine idea, so Burne proceeded to do so until Sierra stopped him. After some discussion, the party and fairy agreed to tie up the (rest of the) prisoners and take them to her father, the Duke of something or other, to be punished.
It wasn't much of a surprise that the entrance to the fairy kingdom was very tiny. It was a bit of a surprise that the fairy they'd rescued was able to insantly shrink the lot of them down to her size, so that they could go in. For Diego in particular it was not a pleasant surprise, and he spent the next day or so complaining about it and asking to be turned back, with little success.
The rest of the party was treated to a grand festival... Burne drank lots of beer and was hit on by chicks, Diego and Felynne were give magic bows, Tachi and Albinus were instructed further in magic, Linn was told wondrous stories of the fairies, and other people were aided in other ways. After a full day of celebration, the party was brought before the fairy court and asked to retrieve to Duke's *other* daughter, who'd been 'abducted' by the unseelie court while hanging out with them and flirting.
They were never actually *threatened* with anything, but Diego's constant pleas to be turned back to normal size were finally answered with 'oh, after you do this task for us, we'll turn you all back to normal, don't worry... but of course you couldn't even fit in the unseelie court if we turned you back now, so it'll have to wait.'
Diego was about to go ballistic and kill someone, but was mollified by being given a potion that, supposedly, would turn him back to normal size. There weren't enough for the whole party -- they were supposed to come back and have the spell cast, once they'd rescued the Duke's daughter.
Most of the party was okay with the mission, though -- it wasn't like they had anything better to do, and adventure always brought treasure and power. Burne and Alaric were suspicious that perhaps they'd be kidnapping their target rather than rescuing her, but of course it was impossible for anyone (including the Duke) to be sure -- it was known that she'd hung out with the unseelie, but that didn't mean she'd gone willingly.
On the road, they met a fairy merchant who offered to sell them caterpillar fur coats 'before they went bad' (and turned into butterflies), and an extremely talkative and annoying fairy-like being that Diego almost murdered. Linn restrained him, warning him that even harmless looking fairies tended to be *very* dangerous if provoked.
Eventually, however, they reached the cave in which the unseelie court was supposed to be located. One of the three fairies that had come with them refused to go any further, but warned them to 'watch out for the cat'. The others planned to lead them to the secret entrance to the back of the unseelie court, which would allow them to avoid the badger said to be gaurding the front door.
So they explored the cave for a bit, cautiously, until they ran right into a rats nest! The rats were fought off handily, but while the party was distracted the cat attacked! Fortunately, it attacked the rats first.
Tachi considered charming it, but decided to save his spell just in case. The party threw rat carcasses to distract the cat while they ran, and proceeded to flee. They had a *lot* of rat carcasses.
A little past the cat they found a rope bridge, the first sign of civilization. The bridge was guarded by a riddle-asking statue, but the riddles weren't terribly hard, except for the last, which Alaric eventually worked out. They crossed the bridge, and found themselves on a small island... and then floated up, to the ceiling. For them, gravity had reversed!
The two fairies with them led them to a smaller cave entrance in the cave ceiling (their floor) and told them that through there was said to be an entrance to the crypts, and from there they could get to the tower where the Duke's daughter was being held, or possibly living in luxury. So, they began to explore this other cave.
This cave had no rats -- instead, cockroaches, ants, and spiders. Only the spiders proved aggressive, and they were no threat, until the big mommy spider finally appeared, and munched on Alaric, filling him chock full of paralyzing venom before being smitten by Burne. The momma spider's coccoons included a few intelligent creatures, who had a few gems on them... the first treasure of the adventure, not counting the gifts from the fairies, which the party wasn't sure would return to full size with them. For that matter, would the gems?
Remembering that one of the fairies could heal, they brought Alaric back to the pair that had come most of the way in with them and had her do so. Unfortunately, this paralyzed her instead, so that was the last heal they'd be able to get from her until she recovered. Her companion was as surprised as the party at that, but agreed that there was nothing to do about it but continue with the mission. And at least Alaric was back in action.
So, near the momma spider's lair, Felynne had spotted a manmade wall that the ants had chewed through. It led in through the back of a secret chamber inside the crypts, presumably, and contained more treasure in the form of a jar of admantium coins. The party opened the door-that-wasn't-so-secret-from-this-side, and found a pillared room with a sarcophagus.
Yep, they'd found the crypts.

Erik: "We'd better stop here. It's nearly six, and there's an encounter in the next room, right?"
Tom: "Well, there doesn't have to be, if you leave the sarcophagus alone."
Everyone: [laughs]
Tom: "Yeah, okay, let's stop here."
